The 5 must-see news for Google Maps: more information and less sudden braking!

Google Maps was one of the absolute protagonists of the annual Google I / O. On the stage in the garden of the headquarters in Mountain View 5 very interesting news were announced, all dedicated to the map and road navigation system . We have collected them in the list below, with images that tell each news. All the news will be available on all platforms – both for the Android and iOS app – in the coming months.

Navigation with less sudden braking

Thanks to a new optimization of road navigation, Maps now offers routes that avoid intersections or roads that can generate sudden braking . This system makes it possible to reduce the risk of accidents and fright for the driver and will not affect too much travel times , given that the chosen routes will still be very similar to the fastest one ever.

Live View Enhancements

The walking navigation system that uses augmented reality becomes even more accessible and rich in details. Points of interest and specific information will appear on the buildings and shop windows, which can then be expanded thanks to the bar at the bottom.

More details on the roads

The information on maps and street sizes will be even more accurate on Maps. As you can see from the GIF below, the indications relating to traffic lights, crossings, pedestrian crossings and crossings will be even more visible and convenient to use. However, detailed maps are only available for a very few cities around the world, which will become approximately 50 across the world by the end of the year.

Recognition of clogged areas

On the city maps it will be possible to view the areas most clogged with people , those in which a large number of tourists or ordinary citizens can be concentrated. In the example below, you can see a map of Rome with some areas more clogged than the others, indicated by the area in yellow color .

Dynamic Points of Interest

The points of interest on the map may change depending on the time of day, indicating the most interesting activities based on your use. Furthermore, Maps will recognize if you are in a place close to home or if you are a tourist traveling to a new place, giving you contextual information about the type of experience you are looking for.
