Since Google decided to give users the possibility to make changes on Maps through the Local Guides program, launched six years ago, the community has grown more and more. Currently over 70% of user-generated reviews, photos and contributions come from Local Guides activities. However, updating the information shown on Maps is something that can be done by anyone and soon it will be even easier to provide your contribution.
With a post on its official blog, Google announced the arrival of some new functions designed to more easily accommodate user suggestions . The pages dedicated to commercial activities for example, can already provide a lot of information today, but to add content it is still necessary to leave a review. Soon the Updates section will be revised to allow you to upload photos of a venue along with a brief description. In this space you can find out if the restaurant where you plan to book has outdoor seats and also take a look at the photos uploaded by the owner.
If you happen to notice that some road information is missing or incomplete, you can take advantage of the new editor available in the version of Maps accessible from the desktop browser . As the video below clearly illustrates, if you want to add a street, just click on the side menu, “edit the map” and “missing street”. The function will allow you to trace paths, rename streets and squares, change the direction of travel , delete roads and realign them if they are poorly drawn. All contributions will then be checked for approval before being published.
Finally, the latest news concerns for now only the USA , where users will be able to take part in a collective challenge to update the details of commercial activities throughout the country. The goal is to modify and enrich more than 100,000 businesses through what Google calls Local Love Challenge , an act of affection towards one's favorite places.
