It is part of the tops but it is not a top, yet by using it you forget about this little smudge and you think of only one thing: it is really the top! Oppo Find X3 Neo is positioned at the center of the new X3 range announced last March but completely changes pace compared to the same version of the previous year. The Chinese house has in fact well thought of equipping this smartphone with the processor of excellence of 2020 (the Snapdragon 865) making it in effect a “top of the range bis” that surprises from all points of view.
The device Oppo aims for the stars and reminds us of it with the back of this smartphone which is the first thing that struck me as it looks like everything except what it really is: Gorilla Glass 5 glass. It is so frosted and so rough that it looks like 100% plastic %; it has a “glitter” effect that reminds of a serene starry sky against the light. Obviously, if on the one hand this processing is a merit (less fingerprints, for example), on the one hand it makes it a bit slippery. Too bad for the lack of waterproofing, it would have really been the icing on the cake. The measurements are 159.9 x 72.5 x 8.0 mm for a total of 184 grams.
Staying on the back, the rich photographic sector stands out at the top left, which makes it a bit of a dancer on the tables but gives a lot of satisfaction on the field. The three cameras are in turn slightly (very little) protruding, so an extra attention to place it on dirty surfaces or that can lead to accidental scratches.
The central profile is in opaque metal, really beautiful especially in this color. I also liked the Galactic Silver variant but, at least from a personal point of view, I prefer a smartphone with a strong color rather than one that essentially groups them all.
On the right side there is the power button with an insert (beautiful, ed) in green; on the left, the volume rocker. Under the slot for the double Nano SIM, the USB C port, the microphone and the speaker that combined with the ear capsule gives a stereo sound. No jack.
Display The display is a 6.55 ”AMOLED with Full HD + resolution and maximum refresh rate at 90 Hz; slightly curved at the sides, it facilitates grip and overall holding in the hand also thanks to the 20: 9 format. Excellent brightness that makes it perfectly visible even in direct sunlight, a little “asleep” the brightness sensor that sometimes needs manual retouching in case of strong darkness: it tends to remain in my opinion a little tall.
Color rendering in line with its name: very good. In the lower part of the display (a bit too low) there is the quick biometric sensor for unlocking.
Camera Oppo Find X3 Neo has something to envy to its big brother, but nothing to envy towards the most ruthless competition in the range as it mounts truly top-of-the-range components that allow it to obtain excellent shots in practically any light condition. The main camera is 50 MP with f / 1.8 aperture with optical stabilization (like X3 Pro). This is followed by a 13 Megapixel telescope (2x) and the 16 MP wide-angle lens with a 123 ° aperture angle but without autofocus. The circle closes with a small sensor dedicated to 2 Megapixel macros that cannot be fully exploited but which does its job anyway.
Software Compared to the first models arrived in Europe, Oppo has taken a giant step forward by arriving at version 11 of its ColorOS interface (11.1 to be precise). This is an interface that inherits little from what is the standard designed by Google and, pass me the term, a little legacy of “China” as happens on Xiaomi and (now it happened) on Huawei with the difference that the features here are practically entirely available as opposed to other brands (see above) that customize the system to their liking by “castrating it” by eliminating certain features without any reason.
The phone “runs” particularly well, like a real top of the range which is without jamming or the like.
Hardware, battery and performance As mentioned at the beginning of the review, Oppo made the strange (and appropriate) choice to mount a top-of-the-range processor from last year on this Find X3 Neo which makes it truly lightning thanks also to the 12 GB of RAM and the 256 GB of memory. internal (not expandable) UFS 3.1 (last year it was 2.1). Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC complete the whole.
Oppo Find X3 Neo mounts the same battery as the older brother Pro or 4500 mAh which has a higher yield thanks to the lower consumption of the processor and display. The autonomy is very good but in any eventuality the Super VOOC 2 fast recharge comes to the rescue, which pushes up to 65 Watts to get 100% recharge in just 30 minutes (50% in about 12).
Conclusions Oppo Find X3 Neo really amazed me. I was definitely expecting something less when I opened the box and picked it up the first time, but shortly thereafter I realized that I would be surprised day after day. Discovering it and analyzing its characteristics, I realized the real potential it had and it has proved to all intents and purposes as a top of the range of the last of 2020 with a few sprays of 2021. All this is available at the price of € 799 in the Galactic colors. Silver and Starlight Black (with the free Oppo Enco Air W51 wireless earphones worth € 130.
