Since last year many habits have changed , starting with working habits, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the many aspects that have undergone changes we certainly find the data traffic generated by Italian users.
According to the numbers collected and processed by AGCOM , the Italian Telecommunications Authority, the month of January 2021 was the one in which it was generated more data traffic from the mobile network than ever in Italy. There is talk of an increase of even 60% compared to the same period last year. As you can see from the graph in the gallery , which shows the trend of data traffic from the mobile network and voice traffic, the trend has seen peaks ) corresponding to the periods of greater restrictions imposed in Italy.
While the graph shows something absolutely predictable , it was not expected that data traffic from the mobile network would increase the most, given that users moved less in the period under review than last year. This increase may have occurred in response to the saturation of home networks , especially in geographic areas poorly served by network infrastructures.
Another factor that could have contributed to this record consists in the competition always fierce in the market of mobile operators , which allows access to rich bundles of data traffic , now also in 5G, at prices very often lower than 10 € per month .
