What Apple presents

The new iPhone 13 will be unveiled on Tuesday, September 14 by Apple, in a special event streamed at 7pm (Italian time) from the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Apple's late summer events are traditionally the most anticipated by analysts and by technology people – and of course by those interested in changing smartphones – because in addition to showing the most important news, they provide good indications on Apple's plans for the future. , one of the richest companies in the world. The company continues to make hundreds of billions of dollars a year, especially thanks to iPhones, but for some time now it has been facing court cases and antitrust investigations that could prompt it to review some of its commercial policies, starting with those applied. in the App Store.

As per tradition, Apple has not provided previews on what will be presented on Tuesday, but in recent weeks a lot of information has circulated on technology sites and beyond, with rather detailed information on iPhones and new products coming.

iPhone 13
Apple should call the new models “iPhone 13″, although in recent months it was speculated that this year's versions could be called ” iPhone 12S “, with the” S “usually used by the company to indicate the intermediate editions of its smartphones, those with fewer innovations.

Same size
Experts expect the assortment of new models to resume last year's, with screen sizes and capacities gradually increasing: iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Aesthetically, the new versions will be almost identical to last year's models, although it is likely that the new iPhone 13 is slightly thicker than the iPhone 12. Apple has also worked on the back of the device to make it less slippery and improve its grip. but there aren't many other details about this change.

Screen
Ming-Chi Kuo, one of Apple's analysts who usually provide reliable information on the company's plans, reported that the new iPhones will use a new type of screen (LTPO), which allows to reduce battery consumption and at the same time to increase the update frequency (up to 120 Hz), which makes content viewing more fluid and above all improves the performance of video games.

A similar type of screen is already used on Apple Watches and made it possible to have the watch face always on. A similar feature should also be present on the new iPhones, for the first time: when you are not using the phone, the screen will still always show the time, battery level and possibly notifications.

Camera
The rather intrusive presence of the various camera lenses already seen in the models of previous years will also remain on the new models, but according to some advances the system will be covered by a glass to better protect the lenses and at the same time mask the presence of multiple targets.

The iPhone 13 Pro will probably have a camera equal to that of the more powerful iPhone 13 Pro Max, thus reducing the differences between the two models compared to what has happened so far with the previous versions of the iPhone. The “ultra wide angle” lens has been revised with the addition of an improved focusing system.

Subject to changes, a new function will also be presented to improve the rendering of photographs taken at night in the starry sky.

5G
The new iPhones will have more powerful modules for using the 5G signal of the new high-speed cellular networks, with some functions so far only available in the United States that will be extended to other countries to make faster connections. There have also been reports of the iPhone 13's ability to receive satellite communications, but only for emergency messages.

Battery
The various iPhone 12 models unveiled last year had shown a slight reduction in battery life, in part due to the addition of 5G. The new iPhones 13 will have a slightly larger battery which will solve the problem, although it will make the new smartphones slightly heavier than their predecessors.

Memory
For the first time, iPhones will also be sold in a version with 1 TB (1 terabyte, equivalent to 1,000 gigabytes), according to some analysts usually reliable.

Processor
The A14 Bionic processor mounted on the various versions of the iPhone 12 is currently among the most powerful processors, therefore it is expected that its successor will be available on the iPhone 13 under the name A15 Bionic and that it is a evolution of the current model.

No USB-C
The new line of iPhone 13 will continue to use cables with Lightning type connectors for their charging and for the transmission of data via cable. Apple's proprietary system will therefore not be replaced for now by the USB-C standard, now used by most smartphone and other device manufacturers.

iPad
In recent months, Apple had updated its iPad Pro, while it has not provided much news on its other tablets. A new edition of the iPad mini and the base model of the iPad is long overdue. It is not clear whether the two devices will be presented during the event on Tuesday or during a subsequent surprise presentation, between October and November as has sometimes been the case in the past.

iOS and others
Apple will announce the release dates of the latest versions of its operating systems, the features of which were presented in late spring and early summer. The news will include: iOS 15 for iPhones, watchOS 8 for Apple Watches, tvOS 15 for Apple TV, macOS Monterey for Macs and iPadOS 15 for iPads.

Apple Watch 7
In recent weeks, major tech sites have reported that the new Apple Watch, expected for Tuesday's event, will have a new, less rounded compared to that maintained for some years. They will have edges, similar to those reintroduced last year with the iPhone 12. The dials should also be larger by a few millimeters, both for the smaller version and for the larger version.

The production of the new Apple Watch suffered some slowdown in the summer months, due to the design change that required some updates of the production lines. Apple could therefore decide not to announce the new smartwatches, or to present them, however, reporting longer delivery times than usual.

Other
There should be no other particular news judging from the advances released in recent weeks. Apple will unlikely present any news related to Macs, after those already announced during the year and which affected several models of its computers.

The event will be broadcast online starting at 7pm (Italian time) and can be followed on the Apple website or directly on YouTube.
