The social network Facebook has announced that it has updated its policy on hate speech with a ban on the publication of any content that denies the Holocaust or alters its facts. Facebook motivated the introduction of these new policies in light of a “documented rise in anti-Semitism globally and an alarming level of ignorance about the Holocaust, especially among young people.” It was specified that the application of the new policies will not take place “overnight”, and that it will take some time before the monitoring and removal systems of the social network come into operation correctly and at full capacity. In the meantime, those who carry out research on the subject will be directed to “authoritative sources”.
