Nvidia will acquire ARM, a company that designs chips, for more than 33 billion euros

The US graphics processor company Nvidia has announced it will buy ARM, a company that designs chips, from the Japanese company SoftBank for 40 billion dollars (about 33.5 billion euros). ARM's chips are installed on countless types of smartphones, PCs and video game consoles, but are also used in advanced robotics. ARM will continue to be based in the UK and will operate as a division of Nvidia. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the post-acquisition priority for his company will be to “spread Nvidia technology across ARM's large network.”

SoftBank bought Arm in 2016 for $ 31 billion (around € 26 billion). Nvidia will pay SoftBank $ 21.5 billion in shares (nearly € 18 billion) and $ 12 billion in cash (about € 10 billion), including € 2 billion on signing. The agreement provides for SoftBank to acquire a stake in Nvidia of between 6.7% and 8.1%.
