Huawei today presented its new Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro smartphones in Munich (Germany), the first not to be able to be sold with Google applications and services, due to the ban of the Chinese company decided by the state government United, which prevents US companies from doing business with some Chinese technology companies. The Mate 30 has a 6.62-inch screen, while the Mate 30 Pro has a 6.53-inch one. Both models use a Kirin 990 processor manufactured by Huawei, and the Mate 30 Pro also has a 5G version, for next-generation high-speed mobile networks.
The operating system of the two smartphones is EMUI 10, a variant of Android made by Huawei and which imitates many features. EMUI usually comes with Google applications, but on new models like the Mate 30 and 30 Pro it won't be able to offer the US company's services. Furthermore, the Google Play Store will not be available, the service to download and purchase new applications always managed by Google. Users will be able to use the AppGallery application instead, which however has a choice of a few tens of thousands of applications, against the over 2.7 million apps of the Google Play Store. However, Huawei intends to invest around a billion dollars to incentivize developers to produce apps for its store as well.
The lack of Google services could discourage the purchase by many users, who especially in the West are used to associating Android with the US company. In China, Huawei has long been selling their smartphones with a modified version of Android, because Google's services are not available in the country, so you won't notice big differences. Huawei has also announced that it is working on an alternative operating system, Harmony, which could allow it to overcome the current limitations born following the trade bans imposed by the Donald Trump government.
