To have a “smart” home, you don't need to upset the electrical system

As with many technologies, until recently it was difficult to say whether the systems to make homes “smart” would have spread or whether they would remain one of those experiments – such as Google Glass – perhaps too ahead of its time. Last year, however, Google and Amazon home assistants arrived in many countries around the world, including Italy, and it has become more common to see one in action at the homes of friends and family. And many technology companies today propose devices to integrate with these systems or their own alternative systems.

For example, Finder, a historic Turin company specializing in electrical equipment, has designed YESLY, a system that allows you to control all the lights and shutters in the house with a smartphone or special wireless buttons. The system has the particularity that the devices that compose it communicate via Bluetooth: it is therefore possible, if desired, to use them even in the absence of a wifi network.

How the YESLY system is made
YESLY includes seven devices. The main one to make the system work is the Bluetooth multifunction relay, available in a flush-mounted or wall-mounted version. By installing it, it is possible to remotely control up to two light points or manage a rolling shutter.

The app to control the system from your smartphone is also essential: it is called YESLY and is available for iOS and Android systems.

Alternatively, you can use the BEYON Bluetooth button, which can be placed anywhere in the house, or a wall button with a very simple design. An interesting feature of Beyon is that it does not need batteries or a charger: it is powered by an energy harvesting process, which uses energy sources available in the surrounding environment to function. In this specific case, Beyon works with the kinetic energy that is generated when the button is pressed. In addition to switching the lights on and off and controlling the shutters, the YESLY system allows you to manage multiple lights or lights and shutters at the same time with a single command, creating “scenarios” during installation.

In addition to the multifunction relay and the wireless buttons, other devices can be added to the system: a Bluetooth dimmer to adjust the intensity of the lights; an actuator to operate the shutters or electric blinds and – unlike the multifunction relay – also manage the up and down speed; and a range extender to extend the range of action of the YESLY system and make it usable in homes of any size.

For those who have a wifi connection and are interested in controlling YESLY even when they are not at home, there is a Gateway to connect the system to the wifi. The Gateway also makes the system interfaceable with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice assistants (even without having a Google Home or an Echo): in this way YESLY can also be managed with voice commands. Finally, the system is completed by the input interface, that is a device capable of making any home button or switch smart by transforming it into a wireless command.

What you need to install YESLY
Compared to home automation systems, which are usually more complex and expensive, the YESLY system is simple to install and does not require invasive renovation works. For installation, simply contact your electrician, who will configure the devices and set the “scenarios” using a dedicated app.

Data protection with YESLY
One thing that Finder has taken into great consideration when designing the YESLY system is IT security. All YESLY devices communicate with each other with a secure connection with TLS (Transport Layer Standard) based on 128-bit end-to-end encryption: it makes the data in transit between the devices unintelligible, making them inaccessible in case of intrusion.

Furthermore, for those who connect the system to the wifi network but are afraid of being the victim of cyber attacks, it is important to emphasize that the gateway constitutes a barrier between the wifi router (considered the weak link of systems connected to the internet) and the devices of the YESLY system. Finally, the data managed by YESLY are stored in the cloud, encrypted and not available to third parties, in compliance with the European Privacy Regulation.

Where can you buy YESLY devices
On the Finder website, on this page, you can find the retailers closest to your city, some of which also have online stores.

Also through the site, by clicking on «Start the experience», you can try a simulation of the system, which shows what you can manage with YESLY and how the app works.
