Kyle Giersdorf, a 16-year-old from Pennsylvania, won $ 3 million at the Fortnite Video Game World Cup, an event held over the weekend at New York's Arthur Ashe Stadium. It is the highest amount ever won in a single time – and by a single player – in a video game tournament. Giersdorf, whose nickname is Bugha, came in first place in the individual category, scoring 59 points and clearing the second place. The Norwegian Emil Bergquist Pedersen and the Austrian David Wang, aged 16 and 17, instead won the pairs category, winning a total prize of 3 million.

Fortnite is a video game with fairly simple premises, whose success has however made it one of the most relevant cultural phenomena of recent years, especially among younger people. The game, available for consoles, computers and smartphones, basically consists of a group combat set on an island, which in the end only one player survives.
