Facebook said the video of the Christchurch, New Zealand bombing was seen live by fewer than 200 people and only 4,000 times before it was removed from the platform. Facebook also said that users only started reporting the video 12 minutes after it ended, which would have prevented it from being blocked earlier.
In the following 24 hours, Facebook said it had removed 1.5 million versions of the video of the attack, and that 1.2 million times it was able to block it when it was uploaded. In the meantime, however, a user had already posted a link on 8chan on which it was possible to see it.
