Colin Kroll, co-founder of Vine and HQ Trivia, died of a drug overdose

Co-founder of Vine and the popular HQ Trivia app, Colin Kroll, died of an accidental overdose. This was established by the New York medical examiner after a post-mortem examination revealed traces of two types of fentanyl – an opiate drug much more powerful than morphine – and then heroin and cocaine. Kroll was found dead at age 34 in his Manhattan apartment in December. His girlfriend had phoned the police asking to do a check, the officers had entered the house and found him lifeless.

Kroll became famous after he founded Vine, a short video sharing app, with Rus Yusupov in 2012; the two then opened Intermedia Labs, an application development company that has had great success thanks to HQ Trivia, an interactive quiz game launched in 2017 that has become one of the most popular and downloaded apps.
