Microsoft has announced that in a year it will stop providing updates for Windows 7, its operating system which has been available since 2009 and is estimated to still be used on about a third of Windows computers around the world. Technical support for Windows 7 will be discontinued on January 14, 2020: individual private customers will no longer receive updates, while corporate customers will be able to access an additional paid service for critical updates, especially related to security. Microsoft is confident in this way to further incentivize the transition to Windows 10, its current operating system that at the end of 2018 surpassed Windows 7 for the number of computers on which it is installed for the first time.
