A little-known Californian company unveiled the world's first foldable smartphone with a flexible display in Beijing, China. The company is called Royole Corporation and the phone is called FlexPai. Once unfolded, it features a 7.8-inch display, but when folded down there are three separate smaller screens: one on the front, one on the back, and one on the back. The version, several newspapers write, will still need improvements: the closed phone, for example, is not flat and could be quite bulky.
Distribution will be done via flash sales, i.e. online timed sales. The first will be tomorrow, Thursday November 1st, for the Chinese market. Royole Corporation has already confirmed that it will release a similar version of its product for developers around the world. FlexPai will have a price between 8,999 and 12,999 yuan, that is between 1,400 and 1,650 euros approximately.
There had been talk of patents for flexible smartphones for some time and it was widely believed that the first companies to market them would be Samsung or Huawei.
This is the “world's first foldable screen phone” released by Rouyu Technology, which will use the Snapdragon 8150 processor, but its design is very rough, just to seize the “first”, this is a futures product. pic.twitter.com/M0v9o2z0Bw
