Prev Next 1 of Previous Next The social network Instagram is having a lot of success: it is constantly growing and there are at least a billion people who use it at least once a month. Many of them use it more often, and one of the inevitable consequences of Instagram success is that they happen to review certain types of photos on different profiles several times: because they are made in photogenic places and because they have proven to be effective on Instagram; they have become part of a code, of a language, in some way. By attending Instagram it therefore happens that you come across photos that are very similar to the same landscape or the same dish or, in other cases, in different but still very similar photos.
The Insta_Repeat profile brings together some very similar photos taken by people in the middle of nature: on top of a cliff, in a lake with a canoe, in a red house in the middle of nature. The profile, which Quartz recently talked about, is followed by 155,000 users and is managed by a 27-year-old photographer and director who lives in Anchorage, Alaska and prefers to remain anonymous. Interviewed by Photo Shelter Blog, she said: «I don't want to be the referee who decides which photos are valuable and which are not. I'm just observing how very homogeneous content is popular on Instagram ». The author also said that, in fairness, she always tags the authors of the photographs. The problem is that sometimes they get offended.
Not necessarily that all this is bad, of course: but let's see some examples, to understand what we are talking about.
