Alphabet, the holding company that controls Google, has announced that its Loon and Wing projects will be formed into two new companies, also under its control. Loon involves the use of high-altitude balloons to spread Internet connections in rural areas, while Wing is a project for the use of drones in remote deliveries. Both initiatives were developed within X, the division of Alphabet that deals with experimenting with new technologies that could later have commercial use. Several Alphabet subsidiaries have sprung up from X in recent years, such as Waymo to build systems for self-driving cars. The incorporation into companies should guarantee Loon and Wing new development prospects, as well as the first commercial uses of the technologies so far planned.
