Brian Krzanich has resigned as CEO of Intel, one of the largest microprocessor companies in the world and based in the United States. Krzanich left because it was discovered that long ago he had “a consensual relationship with a person employed at Intel,” a practice that is prohibited for all executives at the company. The immediate resignation, Intel says, served to demonstrate that the rules must be adhered to by all staff at the company, which has appointed CFO Robert Swan as interim CEO, while waiting to find a new CEO. Krzanich had received a lot of criticism in recent months for his handling of the Meltdown and Specter cases, which is the discovery of design errors in a wide range of Intel processors that compromised their security. In recent months, Intel has released software solutions to mitigate the problem, which in many cases have however led to slowdowns of computers or recurrent errors that make them stop. Krzanich had headed Intel since 2013 and with the company since 1982.
