Sky satellite television presented a new pay offer available on digital terrestrial, ie the platform on which normal free-to-air channels are viewed. The new offer is part of the agreement that Sky had signed last March with Mediaset Premium, which broadcasts for a fee on digital terrestrial and which since April has begun to broadcast some contents also on Sky, via satellite.
Sky on digital. terrestrial The offer is called “Sky on digital terrestrial”, and to make it happen Sky has rented frequencies managed by Mediaset. The offer includes seven Sky channels (two of which from Sky Sport) and eight Mediaset Premium channels divided into two packages. The first package, Sky TV, includes Sky Uno, Sky Atlantic, FOX, National Geographic, Sky TG24, and eight Mediaset channels of films and TV series: Premium Action, Premium Crime, Premium Joi, Premium Stories, Premium Cinema, Premium Cinema Energy , Premium Cinema Emotion, Premium Cinema Comedy. The second package, Sky Sport, includes some of the sports content Sky has the rights to, with Sky Sport 24 and Sky Sport 1 channels. The only channel available in HD is Sky Sport 1.
To enable the offer, a subscription must be activated on a «card enabled to view pay-per-view digital terrestrial channels», ie a Mediaset Premium card, and therefore a Mediaset Premium decoder is required. The two packages together cost € 29.90 per month, with a promotion until June 30 from € 19.90 per month for the first year.
Sky via fiber Together with the announcement of the new offers on digital terrestrial, Sky said it had introduced the possibility of accessing various packages via fiber to complement the vision via antenna. Both abroad and in Italy, Sky already allowed you to see a lot of content in streaming, thanks to Sky Go and (in a different way) Now TV, but with some limitations.
Sky via fiber includes the same channels included in the various Sky satellite subscription packages, except for Premium Cinema, Premium Series and the “optional” channels. On the other hand, the catalog of Sky On Demand, Sky Go and Sky Go Plus are included. Sky explained that to see Sky via fiber it is necessary to connect a special decoder, My Sky, to the internet. Fastweb, Vodafone, TIM, Wind, 3, Infostrada and Tiscali operators are enabled.
