A subsidiary of Foxconn, the world's largest manufacturer of electronic devices starting with iPhones, has acquired Belkin, a popular US electronics company that in turn controls the Linksys and Wemo brands. According to the Financial Times, Foxconn will pay approximately $ 866 million to gain control of Belkin, which will be merged into the Taiwanese company's other divisions. The acquisition was announced by Foxconn Interconnect Technology, which manufactures telecommunications cables and connectors. Belkin has been around for about 35 years, is headquartered in California and is best known for manufacturing a wide range of accessories for smartphones and computers. In 2013, it acquired Linksys, a company specializing in building Internet access points (routers). Wemo is its division that deals with home automation products. The acquisition announced by Foxconn will need to be approved by the US authorities.
