WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, stopped working for many people around the world around 8pm on Thursday night, gradually returning to normal about thirty minutes later: hundreds reported it on Twitter and other social networks, saying not being able to send or receive messages. For now, there have been no official communications from the company – which has been owned by Facebook since 2014 – and it is not known exactly what the extent of the problem was.
