Instagram launches Collabs: this is how new shared publications work

Instagram has announced a series of news that will soon arrive in the app. Soon, users will be able to add a co-author in their publications or Reels so that the image or video appears in both accounts. The social network is also testing stories up to a minute long.

The new Instagram function, called Collabs, offers users the possibility of adding that person who is part of the image so that their username is displayed in the upper area and the publication is also shared on your profile. To do this, the author of the image must invite the user through a new option that will appear next to the labeling button. The co-author may ignore or accept the request. If you ignore it, the image or video will continue to appear in the author's account.

Alexandru Voica, Facebook's head of communication for Europe, Middle East and Africa, highlights that both publications will share the count of 'Likes', comments and the number of views in the event that the content shared between both users is a video or an Instagram Reel.

Voica also ensures that the new Instagram function “is not a way to co-create content” , but only serves to mention a co-author of a publication or Reel.

Soon you will be able to publish Instagram Stories of up to one minute

Currently, Instagram allows you to publish clips of 15 seconds, while videos that exceed that length are divided into several sections. Therefore, with this new feature, those 1 minute clips will be published in a single story, and not in segments as before.

Another novelty that Instagram focuses on is related to the 'Direct messages' section. Specifically, users will be able to find out which people are currently online through a new space that will appear in the upper area of messages.

At the moment, it is unknown when all these new features will be available. However, they are likely to reach all accounts in the next few weeks.
