Facebook announces with Ray-Ban its smart glasses to record video and make calls

Facebook has announced its new smart glasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban. Mark Zuckerberg's company, remember, has been showing small details about this accessory for some time, which is far from being augmented reality glasses. The so-called Ray-Ban Stories work in a very similar way to Snapchat Spectacles. They combine the technology developed by Facebook and the classic design of the American lens manufacturer with the aim of sharing experiences from a different point of view.

Ray-Ban Stories, Facebook's smart glasses, stand out for their double 5 megapixel camera. These will allow to capture photos and record videos of up to 30 seconds in duration in a more comfortable way and with a first-person point of view, since the lens is at eye level. Users will be able to activate video recording through a button located on the pin or through a voice command with the help of the Facebook assistant. In one of the sensors, in addition, an LED indicator is hidden to warn other people that the glasses are capturing video. Audio is picked up by three microphones built into the mount.

The microphones of the Facebook and Ray-Ban smart glasses can also be used to make calls . The pins also incorporate a speaker that includes noise suspension technology. This isolates the outside sound to be able to hear conversations correctly. The integrated speaker also adds the ability to listen to music or podcasts.

Facebook and Ray-Ban smart glasses start at $ 299

The Facebook and Ray-Ban glasses are configured to the smartphone through an app called “ Facebook View “, available for iOS and Android. The application synchronizes all the content captured with the Ray-Ban Stories and allows to export the images or videos to the gallery. It is also possible to share the content through Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, Twitter and other apps.

In a device with these characteristics, privacy is of primary concern. Facebook tries to calm the most restless users by announcing different measures that will protect both passers-by and the person wearing Ray-Ban glasses. Among them, the recording indicator LED or the possibility of turning off the glasses through a button hidden inside the lenses.

The company also recommends some keys for responsible use. For example, turning off the camera in private spaces or not recording if a person expresses their discomfort.

The Facebook and Ray-Ban glasses will go on sale in a limited number of countries. Among them, the United States, Canada, Australia, Italy, Ireland and the United Kingdom. They are priced from $ 299 and are available in up to 20 different styles.
