New DJI OM 5: the reference mobile gimbal is now much more versatile

The Chinese company DJI has presented this Tuesday the DJI OM 5 , the fifth generation of its popular stabilizer for mobile phones. Originally, let's remember, this family of products was known as “Osmo Mobile”, but in recent years the corporation has decided to simplify the names of its teams, as we also saw with the Ronin or the Mavic.

The changes in this DJI OM 5 are diverse. One of the most outstanding is that now the arm is extended, being able to move the phone away from the main control handle to capture scenes from different angles. The dimensions of this product are also worth noting. DJI claims that the new model is 25% lighter and a third smaller (when folded) than the previous version.

Another interesting novelty of the DJI OM 5 is the new clamp for the mobile that includes LED lights to illuminate yourself when you shoot in selfie mode. This, in addition to having a fairly acceptable lighting capacity, is adjustable both in intensity and color temperature. The negative part? Which is sold separately. Its price is 49 euros.

What is included in the DJI OM 5 box is an adapter that provides the device with legs . So that? So that the DJI OM 5 can stand by itself on a surface, as a tripod. Also included is a carrying case, tether strap, and magnetic clamp that makes it easy to dock or undock the phone.

On the software side, the DJI OM 5 comes with a new feature called ShotGuides that provides various tutorials and automatic video editing. The objective, according to the brand, is to facilitate the recording of content with professional quality even for those people with less knowledge.

Added to this mode is the new version of ActiveT rack 4.0 , which now supports “tracking with zoom up to 3x at 5 m / s, and identifies with accurately and steadily tracks the subject, keeping it centered in the frame, even when in motion. ” This mode, obviously, is in addition to others available in previous models. These include panoramic capture or timelapse, hyperlapse and motionlapse recording.

How much will the DJI OM 5 cost?

The DJI OM 5 will cost 159 euros . It will also be available in two different colors: Sunset White and Athens Gray. The Sunset White version is available from today in the online store of the brand, but it will not be possible to buy in other channels until later – DJI has not specified when. The variant in gray, on the other hand, is available from today both in the usual distributors and in DJI's own online store.
