Graphics and chip shortages will extend to 2022, according to Nvidia

The tech industry has been having a hard time for a while. The shortage of chips has generated a knock-on effect that is affecting almost all market segments . And although little by little everything is stabilizing, there is still a long way to go to return to stable levels. Or at least to those in which the demand can be supplied without problems.

Although in terms of the consumer, the focus is on how complicated it is to get hold of a PS5, an Xbox Series X or a graphics card, the truth is that also affects the wholesale and professional market . And a lot. Nvidia also points out that this situation will not improve throughout the year, and that initially throughout 2021 the shortage of chips would not last much longer.

Nothing is further from reality. The shortage of chips, and therefore, of consoles and graphics cards will last longer. Much more. According to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, supply restrictions are expected to remain in place for most of next year , and not just in the latter half of 2021, which was what the market as users expected:

I hope we will see a limited supply environment for the vast majority of next year.

Nvidia's situation is common to the entire industry

Photo by Christian Wiediger on Unsplash It is the tacit confirmation that the problem will last, presumably, another year. And all in a market that does not seem to grow and whose demand, especially after the pandemic, has been increasing.

In fact, one of the most talked about issues is the difficulty of being able to get hold of a next-generation graphics from Nvidia, something that has almost become a meme. The same as with the PS5, and to a lesser extent, with the X Series in depending on which regions.

Nonetheless, Nvidia has done significantly better than the market average to supply demand. Although in the initial moments after the launch of the graphs it was very difficult to buy one (something that mining has not helped), in recent weeks the stock has rebounded in some US stores and Europe , despite the fact that the shortage continues.

Far are the figures for 2020, dates on which it was literally impossible to get hold of a 3000 series graphic, especially after its presentation at the end of last summer. With demand far exceeding supply, a lot of stock accumulated by cryptocurrency miners, and chip shortages affecting most of the major manufacturers, the graphics market has not been through its best moment in terms of availability.

A situation that will last until well into 2022 according to Nvidia , but that, little by little, will return to normal. Like the rest of the world.
