Live streaming is one of the most used functions on YouTube and therefore the company is trying to “make it clearer” when a channel is broadcasting live: in particular, the platform is introducing a indicator that is very reminiscent of near what is already present on TikTok.
The announcement was made by Neal Mohan , Chief Product Officer of YouTube , who posted a short video on his Twitter profile showing this feature: in obvious words, when an account is broadcasting live, its profile photo will be “surrounded” by a red circle and will show the words “LIVE” . By clicking on the profile photo you can go directly to the live broadcast.
For the time being, it appears that this feature will be “exclusive” to the YouTube mobile app , but in all likelihood it will also arrive on the platform's desktop site very soon.
