Search results in a handy side panel: how to enable it on Chrome for Windows

With the new version 101 of the Canary channel for Windows, Chrome has introduced a side panel which contains the search results and allows at the same time to continue viewing a site . The functionality is similar to Edge's Sidebar option and was already introduced in Chrome OS last year.

If you want to activate it , you must obviously use a Windows computer and set Google as the default search engine.

  • open the browser Chrome
  • go to chrome: // flags
  • search Side search , in the drop-down menu next to it select “ Enabled “and restart your browser.

To use it,

  • search for something in the Google search bar
  • click on any of the search results , the side search icon is displayed first in the address bar on the left side.
  • clicking on the icon opens the results in the side panel
  • clicking on each search engine result in the left side panel shows the page in the same tab while the side panel is locked.
  • to close the side panel, click on the icon G

The function is still experimental , so it may not work correctly , we hope that in the future it will also support other search engines such as DuckDuckGo.
