Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm review, Zelda-style adventure for everyone

There is not only Zelda in the collective imagination of successful Nintendian RPGs. Oceanhorn also proved to be an absolutely complex and profound title, and which fortunately goes beyond the console of the Kyoto house, landed on Apple Arcade, and then on Mac, iPhone and iPad. We played it thoroughly, and that alone would already be worth the ticket price, as they say.

In Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm the user will take the commands of a young knight, initially armed only with swords and shields, and who will subsequently be able to count on the contribution of magical potions, and valid battle companions. Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm is set a thousand years before the events of the first chapter, and will transport the user on a journey into the vast world of Gaia, rich in mythology and traditions. The simulitudes with Zelda are certainly not lacking, starting from the settings and from the holidays and scenarios that the player will go to tread.

During the journey the player will get to know numerous characters. These include Trin, the granddaughter of the Arcadia leader Archimedes, and Gen, a mysterious robot who wields an old samurai weapon. These will accompany the hero in some game sessions, controlled by the CPU, and to which they can give themselves some orders, sometimes useful for completing some environmental puzzles, such as pressing buttons or activating levers. These will also be able to fight the enemy automatically, making our task easier in some cases.

The title is only available on Switch and Apple Arcade, but don't think it's a minor or shallow game. It is certainly a full-fledged console title, with a truly immense longevity and a rather large game map. The gameplay is quite consolidated for the genre, and the player will find himself wandering the game map with different missions: reach a certain point on the map to defeat an enemy, accompany a traveling companion to the weapons master, and so on. has more.

During the journeys you will come across enemies to be faced in real time, thanks to the use of sword and shield, but they will also have to solve environmental puzzles, which otherwise would not allow you to continue further. It must be said, from the point of view of difficulty, that Oceanhorn 2 is also a real anchor for all those who have always wanted to approach the world of Zelda, but who have not done so for fear of the difficulty of the puzzles. The title of Cornfox & Brothers, although it requires the player to think in some particular situations, will never be so difficult as to block the user for a long time at a certain point of the adventure.

The commands respond really well to inputs, although it is certainly advisable to use a gamepad, in case you play it on Apple Arcade. As already anticipated, the longevity is certainly not that of a minor or secondary title, with the main quest taking about 15 hours to complete, although it can certainly go up to two dozen in case you waste more time exploring the 'environment. Not only will the fights with the enemies vary and will intersperse the raids from one place to another on the map, but also the fights against the bosses of the end of the area will give the title greater depth.

On a graphic level, the product is certainly well-finished, with a cartoon line not accentuated as in the first chapter, which leaves room for greater attention to detail and details. Moreover, it should be noted that the product runs smoothly at 60 fps on all high-end devices, therefore also on the latest iPhone and iPad models.
