If there is love for reading then at least once in your life it will have happened to look at the world of e-readers and here, a little by intuition and a little by ability, Amazon managed to arrive first with a reader of Homemade digital books: the Kindle. The years, for those who have followed this sector, have led to an expansion of the offer both externally, with the products of other companies, and internally, with a Kindle range that today has three distinct models.
In recent months, Amazon has lent us the new Kindle 2019 and Kindle Paperwhite 2019, which we have talked about in depth and which we have singularly appreciated for more than one reason. Today's review thus allows us to close the circle with the field test of Kindle Oasis 2019 which, with this edition, reaches its third version. Compared to the previous one (launched two years ago, the first instead was placed on the market in 2016) the novelty is only one, but it is so great that it ignites the interest above all to lovers of reading who are about to change e-readers.
Kindle, Paperwhite or Oasis: which one to choose?
As we said, the 2019 range is now complete. It has three different versions of the Kindle and each of these tries to meet the needs of three types of users. The cheapest version, the Kindle, requires a very minimal investment but allows you to put thousands of books in your pocket. In our opinion it is the perfect e-reader for those who read only sporadically and want to try the advantage of reading on “digital paper” without spending too much.
In the middle, as we said, there is the Kindle Paperwhite and in 90% of cases it is what you buy when the old Kindle has passed away. You sling on the Paperwhite because it means that you like reading on e-readers and at that point you are ready to invest more to have a better product in your hands from different points of view. First of all, the screen resolution at 300 ppi, which eliminates the pixel effect of the characters (although, we must say, with the Kindle base 2019 Amazon did an excellent job despite maintaining the resolution at 167 ppi). Then it is slimmer, the body is less slippery in the hands, there is double book storage space and then it is also waterproof, a fundamental feature if you want to read carefree on the beach and by the pool.
The choice could already stop here but for some years Amazon has expanded it with the Kindle Oasis, which we could define as the Ferrari of the Kindles. The price begins to be important but it is justified by a high level product engineering. If until last year even the most hardened of readers could desist from buying, resisting the new version is now much more difficult. As we said at the beginning, there is only one novelty but it is the one that makes it most desired: Kindle Oasis 2019 is the first of the Kindles with amber light.

The amber light
Before explaining what it is, listing advantages and benefits, we cannot avoid making a small reproach to Amazon. Because the regulation of the color temperature of the light integrated in the e-readers of the competition has existed for more than two years and with all the hype that this function has also raised in the mobile sector (with Apple, for example, which did not take long to bring it to the iPhone and iPad via the Night Shift function of iOS 9.3) a sudden adaptation of the Kindle line was expected.
As we said Kindle Oasis 2019 is the first – and currently the only one – in the range to fight blue light, so let's get to the crux of it all: why is it so important?
Because If you look around there are now many devices, not only iPhone and iPad but also Android smartphones and tablets and even Macs thanks to the latest versions of macOS, which allow the screen to yellow.
The race to this adaptation started a few years ago with the confirmation of the numerous problems caused by a long exposure to light of the screens, usually tending to bluish colors.
First of all the CVS (Computer Vision Syndrome), a syndrome whose not negligible effects are discomfort and dryness of the eyes, redness and burning of the conjunctiva and in the worst case even more serious damage to sight. In addition to this, blue light also suppresses the production of melatonin and is able to disturb the circadian rhythm with the risk of unpleasant consequences such as insomnia, irritability and frequent headaches.
How does it work Those who buy Kindle Oasis 2019 must do so above all for this. The investment is now more than justified by the possibility of varying the color temperature of the screen lighting on the warmer shades, thus adapting it to the reading of the moment.
To do this, just open the settings from the top bar and, together with the slider that allows you to adjust the light intensity, a second one called “light heat” appears. By setting the selector to zero you get the same cold shade that distinguishes the light of all the other Kindles existing today while as you bring it to higher values (up to number 24 which is the maximum configurable level) a dominant is introduced. yellowish-orange which changes the color temperature of the light to warmer shades.

How does reading change on Kindle The field test of Kindle Oasis 2019 allowed us to appreciate all the advantages of amber light. In addition to eliminating the possible onset of the problems described above, this new regulation allows the experience of reading to be brought even closer to that of a paper book.
To give an idea, in the same frame of some photographs we inserted the Kindle screen together with the pages of an old book (printed in 1974, the pages have the typical yellowing due to the natural course of the paper) that we were reading right in the previous period this proof. The overlap is millimeter: with the right level of brightness and color temperature, the effect of yellowed paper can finally be reproduced on the Kindle, an advantage that is most appreciated indoors and in the late evening, especially when you go to bed and you want to reconcile sleep with a good book (with amber light, in fact, the desire to sleep comes earlier).

How Kindle Oasis 2019 is made
Otherwise, Kindle Oasis 2019 is the same as the previous generation. If like this reporter you are used to digital reading on basic Kindle and especially Kindle Paperwhite, then the feeling that the new Oasis is on another planet will be even more evident. In fact, this model completely changes the way you read an e-book starting from the way you hold it in your hand.
Unlike the others, it has in fact a particular handle on the back that makes the positioning of the fingers even more natural and facilitates the seal which, in its absence, could have been unsafe due to the well-known slipperiness of aluminum. The curvature seems to be made especially for the fingertips and the Page Turn buttons, which we find only on the Oasis series, are right in both shape and positioning, always reachable by the thumb.
If you get tired of holding it with one hand, just rotate it and move it in the other: thanks to the gyroscope, the Kindle will automatically rotate the screen too, and if you try to hold it with both hands then the feeling of having a high quality object will emerge again. more. The profile is in fact very thin, a few millimeters that show how much engineering there is behind the development of this e-reader.

But those who come from a basic Kindle or a Paperwhite will immediately notice that the dimensions are different: Oasis is in fact slightly shorter but abundantly wider, this not only because it has a handle on the back but also and above all because the screen is larger. : only one inch, 7 “against the 6” of the other two, which, however, also completely change the distribution of the text. The greatest benefits, however, are obtained with the reading of comics, which thanks to the (almost) two centimeters more both on the side and below, often do not require an enlargement of the single sketch and greatly speed up the reading. The seven-inch diagonal screen is also very useful when reading PDF files which, at the same magnification level, clearly manage to include more content.

How is it going
The reading experience is comparable to that of the Kindle Paperwhite 2019. The software on the other hand is the same so that those who buy the new Oasis can only do it mainly for the new function of adjusting the color temperature of the light and, why not, for the screen a little bigger. But having experienced the last few years of digital reading with the Paperwhite (a few months ago with the latest 2019 edition) we can add that even the performance of the new Oasis is superior to any other Kindle to date.
Amazon does not say which processor is mounted under the hood of one and the other so we cannot make a comparison in that sense, but in the weight specifications it writes that “Actual size and weight may vary based on configuration and process. processing “. During our tests we always had the opportunity to use the most performing configuration of each model and, in the case of Kindle Oasis 2019, we had in our hands the version with 32 GB of capacity and free 4G LTE connectivity (of this, you can find our analysis told in this paragraph).

Therefore, between the maximum configuration of the Paperwhite 2019, still available on the shelves of our editorial office, and that of the Oasis 2019, the direct comparison has allowed us to confirm the greater performance of the latter, particularly perceptible in the act of changing the page. Not that the Paperwhite is slow, mind you, but the very few milliseconds that elapse between the scrolling of the pages are practically canceled in the new Oasis, which is lightning-fast and almost instantaneous in the refresh of the screen. The increased speed is also perceived in the rest of the interface, where scrolling through the volumes in the library or selecting the settings, seemed very fluid and snappy.
Power aside, those wishing to deepen the subject further, perhaps to get to know a different point of view or find out in detail how to manage the e-book library, can read the review of our colleague Antonio who, a few years ago, told about these pages his experience with the previous generation which, as widely reported in this article, differs from the new one only in the absence of amber light.
Conclusions
In the face of such an important function from the point of view of health, we can only recommend its purchase. Anyone who owns an old Kindle who's about to kick the bucket and reads a lot of e-books, if he's been satisfied undone by the reading experience of this range, he will have no difficulty in justifying the greater investment for the purchase of what is currently, even in the less enhanced version, the most expensive of Amazon's e-readers.
Kindle Oasis 2019 is no longer a hassle for hardened readers but a necessity for those who want to stay within the Kindle ecosystem and at the same time benefit from the new amber light, thus buying the best you can have right now within the series of Amazon both from a constructive point of view and from that of the reading experience.
