The new CHOETECH wireless charger is being tested, which in aesthetics is very reminiscent of AirPower, the Apple Qi charging base that will never be. It offers 5 coils and allows you to charge two devices at a time, for a maximum of 10W each, therefore compatible with the fast charging of the iPhone at 7.5W.
In appearance, remember, this Choetech Wireless charger takes up the Apple idea of AirPower. It is therefore an oval base, slightly elongated, inside which there are 5 coils, which allow, as we will see later, to recharge the various devices, even when these are not perfectly aligned with the ends. It is made of plastic material, and on the upper surface it offers a rough, not smooth pattern, which allows the devices to adhere in a stable way, therefore without being slippery. On the lower part, on the other hand, there are rubber inserts, which allow the base not to slip on the flat surface, and to “anchor” at best on a desk. Next to these, the base is then surrounded by air rings, so as not to overheat the peripheral too much.
The Choetech charger is guaranteed by the manufacturer against overvoltage, and integrates safety systems for temperature control, preventing any short circuits, and guaranteeing complete safety for the devices.
In terms of technical characteristics, as already mentioned, it supports 7.5W fast charging, therefore suitable for fast charging of iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, as well as iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. charging up to 10W for compatible Android devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S10 series. Of course, the Choetech charger is capable of supporting standard 5W charging, therefore compatible with the new AirPods.
On the back there is a USB-C input, and in the package there is also a USB-C cable with a length of 1.2 meters, but not also the wall socket. Offers 5V / 3A, 9V / 3A (Max) input, and 5V / 1A, 9V / 1.1A first output, same for output 2.
Obviously, to activate fast wireless charging you need to use a Quick Charge 3.0 adapter not included in the package. It should be noted, however, that if a PD charger is used the peripheral will work only with 5V, not being compatible with 9V or 12V.
During our reload tests we noticed that the 5 coils help in activating the recharge even when the device is not perfectly in line with the ends of the base. This does not mean, of course, that it will be possible to place the devices at random, also because there seems to be a gray area when approaching the center. In any case, the recharge is always stable, and after placing the device on the strap, there will be no interruption in the recharge. It is even possible to continue using the smartphone while it is charging, without the taps on the screen interfering with charging.
In our tests, carried out with a Xiaomi Mi 9, which therefore supports fast wireless charging up to 20W, we were able to recharge the terminal with standard speed, thus delivering a power between 1.10A and 1.28A. This did not activate the fast charging of the device, but it still allowed for a good charging speed, equal to the speed you get when charging the device with a cable and a standard wall adapter.
Conclusions
The Choetech charging base is recommended for all those who have waited a long time for the AirPower and who will never be able to install it on their desk. The elongated shape is reminiscent of the Apple peripheral, and its shape helps the positioning of two devices without any difficulty. It supports fast charging up to 10W, and this is an extra weapon for anyone with the latest terminals, such as the latest range of iPhones.
