In recent months we have tested the video surveillance system Eufy Security , remaining particularly satisfied with the system, the quality of the cameras and its operation.
In recent months, the company has also added support for Google Home and Google assistant , even if limited to viewing the video stream on Nest Hub or similar. In this article, however, we test the sensor for doors and windows, which interfaces with the Eufy Security system, and which allows you to monitor the opening or closing of doors and windows. Here's what it looks like and how it works.
How it's done
At the sight, we must be honest, he is not among the smallest. It is really well done, built in the usual way, and absolutely finished, but its dimensions are slightly more generous than other solutions used by competitors. Attention, the look and the aesthetics are absolutely appreciable, with glossy plastics that marry well a modern and minimal environment.
The sensor naturally consists of two parts, which must be positioned in the two window sashes or on the door sash and wall. On the lower part of the sensor there is a small synchronization button, almost invisible, which will be used for coupling with the existing system.
On the back is the compartment for the CR-123A type battery, which according to the manufacturer's estimates should last up to two years. In addition, both parts are equipped on the back with a 3M adhesive, to be able to easily attach it to walls and doors. In the package, however, there are also small screws, in case you want to fix it to the wall. In fact, it seems to us that 3M adhesives do their job, and that they keep the two peripherals firmly, even considering the weight of a few grams.
Configuration
First of all, it should be noted that the sensor requires the HomeBase for correct operation . Therefore, it is not a standalone device to be used alone. It must be integrated into an existing system. It is not necessary that there are Eufy cameras in operation, but the Homebase is necessary for correct operation as it uses its own radio protocol for data transmission.
The configuration, as already indicated in the review article of the system, is particularly simple and really immediate: a few seconds are enough to activate the sense. And in fact, after opening the app Eufy Security , and clicking on “add device”, you will have to press the Sync button for a few seconds. At this point the Homebase will automatically recognize the peripheral and automatically configure it. The configuration is complete.
Operation
The operation of the device is also extremely simple. It is possible to set a given behavior when opening or closing the door. In particular, you can choose whether to receive a push notification, whether to trigger the base alarm, whose siren is still loud enough, or whether to proceed with both alerts. Of course, it is also possible not to intervene and not to receive any notification.
Note that the Eufy Security app allows you to set and choose “At home” or “Away from home” mode, and to customize each of the situations to your liking. For example, you can choose to trigger the alarm and receive push notifications when you are away from home, and not to intervene when you are at home. A simple, practical and functional system. Too bad that it is not possible to activate the “home” or “away from home” modes via Alexa or Google voice command.
During our tests we have always found a punctual operation. Push notifications have always arrived, obviously with a few seconds of lag, God forbid, just as the acoustic alarm activated by the Homebase has always worked. After all, the Eufy Security system has always seemed to us reactive and working, even when we tested the cameras at the time.
The battery, according to the manufacturer, has a life span of two years. Of course it is not possible for us to ascertain this information, otherwise we would have had to wait over 700 days to publish the review. In any case, even if the autonomy were to exceed one year, it would be an excellent result, also considering the negligible cost of the battery itself.
Conclusions
The Eufy door and window sensor costs 29.90 euros. It is absolutely an accessory that embellishes the entire video surveillance system, already functional on its own. Too bad that the manufacturer does not allow you to buy them in bundles to save money, because the advice is to buy more, to equip more doors and windows with sensors. They work beautiful, configuring them is very simple, and they increase the level of security.
On Amazon the Eufy sensor for doors and windows, naturally in white, can be purchased at this address.
