Tested Acute Angle AA, the mini desktop PC that tries to amaze, first of all, from an aesthetic and visual point of view . It has the shape of a triangle, and is partly made of real wood. Here's what it looks like, who it's suitable for, and how it behaves in everyday life.
Aesthetics
Aesthetics and exterior design are usually not one of the main characteristics of a desktop computer. Acute Angle, on the other hand, is an exception, because it is the exterior that immediately catches the eye. It is a triangle, made of partly in aluminum, and partly in real wood . It is certainly original, and is among the first in its category to present this form.
Build quality is good, overall the computer is very light and the wooden part is well crafted. It is well assembled, does not have any kind of smudges, and on the whole it is able to act as a real piece of furniture for the home.
Certainly the Nordic style of the machine will have to adapt to the surrounding environment, but in most cases it will marry well the home or office environment, also due to the small size, equal to 25.50 x 25.50 x 4.00 cm.
On the front, in an aluminum insert, there is the large power button, as well as two full Size USB ports. A third USB port is located on the back, where there are also HDMI inputs, ethernet, and the input for the power supply.
Technical features
Considering the really cheap selling price, of course, it is not possible to expect any particularly relevant features. Still, there are some surprising elements. First of all the RAM, well 8 GB on board , able to offer good multitasking performance.
The memory also reserves some surprises: the 64 GB SanDisk emmc memory is flanked by a 128 GB SSD. This is certainly excellent news, not only because the amount of space available is appreciable, but because it is a second drive faster than the main one. Too bad, however, that the system is not installed on SSD, but on emmc.
Obviously, it will be sufficient to clone the HDD to SSD and make it bootable, in order to use this second disk as the main one and increase system performance.
Where obviously the manufacturer has spared is the CPU and GPU department. To power the machine, in fact, an Intel Apollo Lake N3450, Quad Core 1.1 GHz CPU. We have talked about the Apollo Lake series in depth at this address, even if the CPU is well known because it populates most of the low-cost notebooks from China.
The GPU, on the other hand, is the Intel HD Graphics 500, which certainly doesn't help in particular when it comes to 3D games or applications that require above average graphics power.
Daily use
Precisely these latest specifications, i.e. processor and GPU, show the user what the main use of the machine is, useful for productivity, for surfing the net, even on numerous tabs at a time, watching streaming movies, even in high definition, use word processing applications, manage emails.
It should be noted that the basic use that the machine allows is probably the most frequent and widespread among users, unless there are particular needs, perhaps related to the workplace.
The machine “fails”, on the other hand, in the videogame field for example. It is possible to play the titles from smartphones that do not require large graphics potential, while more noble software require different specifications: just to be clear, it is not the ideal machine to play Fortnite and the like.
If on the one hand, as already mentioned, you can manage basic programs without the slightest problem, as soon as you try to start a heavier software you find yourself having to deal with the limits of the CPU: it is difficult to think of being able to mount an entire 4K movie or handle heavy PSD images with transparencies in tow.
The use of the laptop, therefore, remains linked, as already mentioned, to all those operations that in everyday life usually dominate long sessions on the PC: surfing the net, managing mail, watching movies, and more. In short, don't ask him to flex his muscles on games or graphics-heavy programs.
Conclusions
The Acute Angle PC is chosen, first of all, by price and design. Furnish your home and with just 170 euros it allows you to have a complete PC, with 8GB of RAM and an SSD that never hurts. The appearance makes it original and ready to embellish the desk on which you decide to put it away.
The technical specifications ensure daily use aimed above all at productivity, and for all those operations that do not require large computing power. Absolutely promoted for word processing, surfing the net, using social media and watching streaming movies on platforms such as YouTube or Netflix.
