The Mpow 059 headphones are different from the usual, especially if they are purchased in kit with the Bluetooth transmitter: this in fact extends the possibility of connecting to any audio source equipped with a 3.5mm jack socket as well as, thanks to the practical support function, support them when not are used. The quality is not excellent but this is to the advantage of the commercial price, lower than almost all headphones that can be used with televisions.
The headphones
The external shell is in polycarbonate, glossy black on the outside and satin red on the inside. The construction, as we said, is not the best: the plastic creaks if the headphones are subjected to exaggerated bending, which however remain well anchored to the metal core that connects the two pavilions.
The latter are large, able to completely envelop the ear and offer excellent passive soundproofing to external noise. They are well padded, very soft and accompanied by a faux leather cover that guarantees a comfortable grip even in prolonged use.
The padding of the headband is also very good, which rests on the head making it comfortable and light. The pavilions can be moved away from the headband to allow you to adapt the length of the headphones to your head shape.
On the outside of the right pavilion there are the power and remote control buttons, on the right there is a solid metal plate, to remind us that if we are looking for the controls we are on the wrong side.
On the underside of the pavilion there is also a 3.5mm audio jack socket that allows you to connect them via cable to any audio source, while eliminating any constraints dictated by the autonomy of the internal battery.
Finally, we point out that the headphones benefit from a folding system that allows them to reduce the bulk and put them in the protective bag included in the package.

The support-transmitter
As we said, the real advantage of Mpow 059 lies in the purchase combined with the transmitter, which enables it to be wirelessly connected to many more audio sources. The actual transmitter is represented by a circular plate that can also be hidden behind the TV if you do not want to benefit from its secondary support functions.
In fact, a pin protrudes at the center of the plate that fits perfectly to an aluminum rod included in the package and to which, at the other end, the rubber support is attached to which the headphones can be placed without incurring the risk of scratch or damage them.
Although the transmitter is not very heavy, the balance is excellent and the headphones remain well hung on the structure without slipping or collapsing to the floor, even if the room in which they are located is powered.
On one side of the transmitter frame there is the On / Off switch, the microUSB power socket and the jack port; on the other hand, the Bluetooth activation button for pairing and the volume control keys.

How do they work
The headphones are of the Bluetooth type and can be connected to any smartphone, tablet or peripheral equipped with this connection, or directly to the transmitter to benefit from the wireless connection with TV or other audio sources equipped with a 3.5mm jack socket. In both cases, the connection type is the most recent 5.0, which promises, among others, better autonomy and a wireless connection range of 30 meters.
To connect them to smartphones and Bluetooth devices, simply turn them on by holding down the On / Off button until a female voice in the headset says the word “pairing”: at this point the headphones will appear in the list of nearby Bluetooth devices, just select them and the connection will happen almost instantly.
In the case of pairing with the transmitter, just power it up and turn it on by moving the switch to On, then turn on the headphones as described above and wait for the connection to be completed, which takes place within 15-30 seconds.

How are they doing
The audio quality is in line with the expense of buying headphones: there is a strong presence of low frequencies, so they sound better with all those songs where the bass line has a predominant part. Overall they sound good and with the TV they clearly improve the performance compared to what you hear from most of the speakers integrated in televisions. The sound is enveloping and the voices in the show and TV programs are warm and ringing.
The autonomy is very good: over 15 hours of use on a single charge. We did not like the transmitter buttons instead: the advice is to adjust the volume here to the maximum level, thus being able to have a more comfortable control of the volume through the remote control rather than forcing the user to get up every time the variation between programs and advertising require a new adjustment of the levels.
The presence of the Bluetooth button on the transmitter is also irrelevant for the functioning of the whole system: the headphones and the transmitter can “see” and “recognize” each other independently, without requiring any special intervention by the user other than those explained above.
Conclusions and price
Mpow 059 are good quality, comfortable and versatile Bluetooth headphones. As we said, you can also buy them individually for 34.99 euros but with an additional cost of 22 euros (for a final price of 56.99 euros) you can take home the support-transmitter, an essential accessory to use them with the TV and keep them stylishly on a shelf when not in use. On the other hand, this is a solution perfectly integrated with the system, which would otherwise require the separate purchase of a Bluetooth transmitter and a headphone holder.
At this price we believe it is a good choice for those who do not have great demands in terms of audio quality or construction. We imagine they can be an inexpensive and highly appreciated gift by all those people who watch TV late at night and do not want to disturb the other tenants in the house, or the elderly who struggle to listen to their favorite TV programs.
