TWS BE-A1 review, the true wireless earphones with LED and touch controls

We have just finished trying TWS BE-A1, a pair of completely wireless earphones that stand out from many others positioned in the same price range for the touch controls and the pleasant LED indicator that makes them clearly visible even in the dark.

How they are made

The charging case The peculiarity of these earphones is first of all the case in which they are stored: a tube about the size of a 5,000 mAh powerbank built entirely of brushed aluminum. The earphones are accessed by pulling out the tray, which is made of polycarbonate instead (pity: it was better to continue with aluminum, since it does not seem to be very sturdy).

A safety system prevents the compartment from being completely extracted and therefore falling away, but the two parts do not adhere well and the tray appears a little dancer.

The cap is surrounded by a matte white plastic ring that actually encloses an LED indicator that turns on with a strong blue light when you clip the two earphones into their respective openings, reminding us that charging has started.

Along with this, the small LEDs embedded in the tray will light up: there are 4 of them, each representing 25% of residual energy in the battery that recharges the earphones. This battery can be recharged by connecting the cable included in the package to the USB-C socket on one side. It can be connected to a computer socket or to any available power supply.

The tray is kept closed by a magnetic system: the magnets used are very powerful, so much so that about a centimeter from the closure, the advancement of the tray inside the case takes place almost automatically. The earphones are also held firmly inside their respective openings through the use of some magnets, while the internal battery is recharged through the contact of three metal pins.

The earphones are quite similar to many others in conformation. They have an in-ear rubber and a rounded extension that fits comfortably inside the ear cavity and houses the small 40 mAh battery for power.

An excellent choice was to use a metal grille to cover the drivers, which gives the whole impression of withstanding the wear and tear of time.

What immediately catches the eye is the absence of buttons: the management of music and phone calls takes place by touching the external surface, flat and in shiny plastic. This area, circular in shape, is framed by an LED circle that lights up red or blue depending on the indication it intends to indicate to the user.

How they go

The audio quality does not excel, but we must not forget that we are faced with a pair of earphones that offer the latest technologies at a very low price. First of all, there is Bluetooth 5.0, which promises a fourfold wireless connection range compared to the past (40 meters) and a long autonomy.

According to our tests, they fully recharge in 1 hour and provide up to 6 hours of uninterrupted music playback, or about 5 in conversation. If left on, in Standby they can remain on for over 100 hours.

The audio, as we said, is average, with a balanced reproduction of the entire sound spectrum. It does not excel in the bass and it does not appear particularly full-bodied in the mids, just as the highs do not shine. They are good for phone calls and occasional music listening, while not recommended for audiophiles looking for high sonic fidelity.

Then there are other unfavorable points: the pairing is not intuitive, as the risk that can be run is to pair the two earphones individually. We do not recommend relying on the user manual which is impractical, and do the following: unhook both earphones from the case, then wait a few seconds, then turn on the Bluetooth on your smartphone. If the phone will only see the left headset (name TWS-A1 L) then select it and perform pairing. If, on the other hand, you will also see the right earphone (TWS-A1 R) in the list, then it means that they have not paired with each other: hook them back to the case, wait a few seconds, then remove them from the cover and try again as mentioned.

In addition to this, if you start the music playback and are hooked to the case, they will not go into Standby (as it happens with many other earphones) but will continue to play and will remain connected via Bluetooth to the smartphone, thus consuming all the battery of the earphones. and the charging case. It is therefore good to pay attention when using them, perhaps unplugging the Bluetooth and turning off both earphones before putting them back in the charging case. We must also be careful how they touch: since there is a large touch surface for controlling music, switching on and off, it is not excluded that they can be switched on again while storing them, so it is advisable to put them in the case, then hold down the virtual touch button on both until the LED indicator flashes red until it turns off completely.

We also point out that there is no control to go back to the previous song: with a single touch you start or pause playback, with the double tap you jump to the next song in the playlist while with the triple touch you recall the voice assistant.

Conclusions

The TWS BE-A1 earphones are very beautiful to look at. The circular LED indicator certainly makes them special, thanks to the blue light that turns on and off gradually during normal use.

The charging case is convenient, perhaps a little bulky, while the USB-C socket is a good choice for those who use them with a recent generation device and want to completely get rid of microUSB cables and chargers.

The audio quality is average, while the autonomy is good. Finally, the price is excellent: on GearBest you can find them on sale for only 36 euros .
