As since man has existed he has persistently sought fame, wealth and companionship, so the user of MacBook and MacBook Pro (first) and of iMac and Mac mini (later) have started looking for the perfect hub: the Inateck 9 -in-1 USB C Hub is a candidate for this role, with considerable luck and only one, partial, necessary attention.
Inateck 9-in-1 USB C Hub, the review
Form and substance
Inateck 9-in-1 USB C Hub arrives in an anonymous cardboard box, with the Hub and a small information brochure inside, if only for such a product, neither the clamor of a package nor the description of the its functions (because it is purchased precisely out of necessity).
Externally it is a parallelepiped whose dimensions as we see in the image are very similar to those of an iPhone 8, even if it is much thicker.
The first side houses an HDMI port, a VGA, an Ethernet and a USB-C port, basically what is needed to connect the MacBook or MacBook Pro in a hotel room during a meeting, since it is not (unfortunately) so rare to find VGA connectors again.
The second side houses two USB-A 3.0 ports, a USB-C port, an SD and Micro SD reader, also here a spatial convenience for travelers, having the opportunity to have USB and SD reader on the same side.
A somewhat distinctive feature is the USB-C type connection cable, which is connected to the HUB body via a flat cable which, once closed, enters a wide side and disappears, making it very comfortable to operate.
On the field
Tested with a MacBook Pro in a bag, the HUB is very convenient: first of all the cable disappears and the HUB fits perfectly in the inside pockets of the backpack or bag.
Secondly, the USB-C port with 100W Power Delivery allows you to power the laptop while using the HUB, a fundamental factor for those who have a MacBook with only one USB-C port.
1 of 3
For the rest we have connected everything, from the iPhone 8 for charging to USB 3.0 2.5 “disks up to mice and keyboards with considerable success, as obviously display via HDMI or VGA (even if in one case the adaptation VGA / DVI with Apple Cinema Display did not work).
The external shape is in black plastic, except for the retractable cable which is in viscous rubber: everything seems to last over time, even the cable whose joint in the fold has not shown signs of sagging, even if mistreated by the little one of the house.
Considerations
Inateck 9-in-1 USB C Hub is a good HUB, which for elasticity and versatility is one of the best in the market (especially for the double video socket and the SD reader), although this consideration leaves some time that find why each of us has our own needs in searching for connections.
We can also say that the greatest advantage of the HUB, portability, is certainly its biggest flaw: as convenient and useful it is with a laptop, it becomes uncomfortable to use with a Mac mini or an iMac, where the short cable is a bit of a problem, albeit not insurmountable.
Pro : • Dual video connection is very convenient • Can power a laptop • The retractable cable is convenient in the bag
Cons : • Not suitable for desktop computers
