The Tinder app for Android and iOS is being updated in these hours with an important new feature: identity verification by uploading an official document. The operation has been tested in Japan since 2019, but is now making its global debut . In order to authenticate their profile, therefore, users can take a photo of an identity card, driving license, passport or other similar documents issued by the authorities.
The procedure is optional , while it will be mandatory in all those countries where this verification is required by law. In announcing it, however, Tinder doesn’t even state that it might not become necessary for everyone in the future. The post on the official blog actually reports that the hope is to see the number of officially authenticated users grow more and more .
The novelty tries to make life more difficult for fake profiles and is presented as respectful of privacy. However, Tinder did not specify the details of how documents uploaded by users will be managed and stored. What do you think: will you verify your profile?
