JJRC H78G drone review: small, foldable and versatile

Home Reviews ,,,,, Cyber Layman tests the small JJRC H78G drone; apparently it looks like a toy, it is mostly it, but it does not lack some elements that make it a practical and versatile ally for those who want to take some photos from above, or capture glimpses of landscapes with Full HD video.

How it's done

JJRC H78G is a really small drone, small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Even more so when it is folded: yes, because despite its small size, it is also possible to fold the arms of the drone, to make it even more transportable. Moreover, the drone arrives at home in a small carrying bag, which will allow you to carry it around without having to worry about buying a backpack separately.

On the surface the JJRC H78G is a toy, and for the most part it really is. The materials are plastic, not particularly fine, the motors are not brushless, and the appearance does not give the feeling of a fine drone. Nonetheless, it offers sufficient image quality in flight, which you wouldn't expect to see from a low-cost drone.

Technical features

The technology used by the drone to send images in real time to the smartphone is WiFi, which allows the sending of a 720P video stream via the JJRC TST app, available for free on the App Store or Google Play. If on the one hand this allows greater versatility, because it deprives the user of wires between smartphone and remote control, on the other hand it lends itself to some video lag, and to a really reduced range. It is enough to move away a hundred meters to lose the video signal: the description speaks of a flight distance of 300 meters, but during our tests we managed to cover about half of it.

The drone has GPS, and this is the most surprising feature in a product of this price range. It will certainly not be the most accurate GPS that can be appreciated in a quadcopter, but at least it will give the guarantee of a safe return to base, unlike what happens with drones without GPS, which base the Return to Home only on the compass. The presence of GPS allows an even more stable and easy flight, suitable, therefore, for beginners who become familiar with a drone for the first time.

The drone enjoys several flight modes. If the GPS is the standard, it is also possible to perform waypoint flights, i.e. indicate on the map the points that the drone will have to follow, or activate the headless mode. The latter allows you to drive the drone regardless of the direction of the “nose”.

Remote control

The remote control is well made, and offers an original smartphone coupling system different from that adopted by many other drones of the same type. The support is located on the lower part of the controller: it seems comfortable, and partly it has it, but it lends itself to some problems.

The battery charging system is also interesting: it is 900 mAh, it does not require special battery chargers, rather than a common MicroSD cable to be attached on the long side. In flight, it ensures at least 10 minutes of autonomy.

Photo and Video Quality

As always, we let the reader judge the quality of the images. It is clear, we are not dealing with a product with excellent quality, and it could not be otherwise considering the price of the product.

However, it must be said that the images taken, and the footage taken, are absolutely not to be thrown away. Indeed, the absence of a mechanical gimbal presaged absolutely unwatchable images, and instead, this is not the way to judge for yourself.

Conclusions

On the surface a toy, as in fact it is, offers an image quality that would not be expected from this type of drone. Despite the absence of a gimbal, the images are appreciable, certainly not professional, but still enjoyable. It is appreciable that the package is a bag to carry the drone, which will always remain tidy while on the move.

It costs about 76 euros on GearBest and you buy directly at this address .
