It is not among the most massive, heavy or voluminous, and for this reason it could appeal to a wider audience, even if its target always remains well defined.
Let's start with the aesthetic aspect. Cubot King Kong 3 is a rugged phone, but not the most bulky. Usually the terminals of this category have exaggerated weight and dimensions; the Cubot under test has them too, but less than many other competitors. Measuring 7.83 × 16.25 × 1.33 cm, certainly not comfortable to keep in your pocket; they are important dimensions even if, we repeat, they are inferior to any other rugged on the market. Even the weight, of 280 grams, although it may seem excessive (and indeed it is) is lower than that of many other rugged devices, which can weigh up to 400 grams.
In short, the external appearance is that of any classic rugged, but a little more “acceptable”. There are, of course, large frames, screws in plain sight, and aesthetic elements that certainly do not make the smartphone minimal. 
Display
Cubot King Kong 3 offers a 5.5-inch screen, naturally with LCD technology. It has a resolution of 1440×720 with a decent pixel density of 293 PPI. It offers an aspect ratio of 18: 9 and a 2.5D curved glass screen. The display has a good brightness and a good yield, on average, but still appreciable also in consideration of the price range within which the product is located. The colors aren't the deepest seen on a smartphone screen, but overall it's an enjoyable panel.
Processor
Cubot King Kong 3 houses a CPU Helio P23 octa-core, with four at 2.3 GHz Cortex A53, and four cores at 1.65 GHz. In everyday life, also thanks to the 4 GB of RAM the terminal can work without particular problems. We have tested most of the apps you use on a daily basis, such as mail, messaging apps, social networks and even some games. Of course it will not be possible to play Fortnite or similar, but the Mali-T880 MP2 GPU still manages to run casual titles, such as Angry Birds, Clash Royale, or the like. Moreover, the integrated memory of 64 GB is sufficient to install many apps and games, but if this is not enough, the smartphone supports memory expansion via Micro SD up to 256 GB .
Room
On a multimedia level, Cubot King Kong 3 is equipped with a 16 megapixel rear camera, while on the front the sensor counts 7.9 MP . On the rear there is of course the LED, which instead sends to the front. As always happens for this price range, the multimedia department is not the best. In any case, the photos taken by the Cubot King Kong 3 are not to be discarded in toto. Images captured in optimal light conditions are sufficient.
It is certainly not a smartphone that can be considered a camera phone, but overall it will be able to immortalize trips out of town or some beautiful panorama. The colors captured are not very vivid, as well as some details are missing. The focus is slow and between one shot and the other there was no lack of some blurry images. The small gallery that follows, however, allows you to understand the real potential of the device.
Autonomy and resistance
Those who choose a rugged phone do not do it to have a camera phone or a terminal among the most powerful in their hands. What matters in these cases is resistance and autonomy. While Kong Kong 3 is not among the largest and most bulky of its kind, it is excellently built. Very solid, with well assembled materials. When you take it in your hand you feel a sensation of strength, thanks to the glass protected by gorilla glass and the optimal assembly. It has IP68 certification , therefore resistant to water, dust, diving. It is not afraid of a particularly risky use, therefore suitable for those who make excursions or those who work on construction sites, where it is easy for the terminal to suffer sudden falls or come into contact with dust or water.
Withstands accidental drops from 1.5 meters in height, can work in extreme temperature ranges, between -30 and +60 degrees. It can be submerged up to 1.5 meters in water for about 30 minutes – everything is waterproof, such as the camera, speakers, buttons and fingerprint reader. In short, these are the features that most interest those who buy a rugged phone, and King Kong 3 is ready to be found.
As for autonomy, King Kong 3 offers a 6000 mAh battery . It is not a record for this type of terminal, which usually also includes a 10,000 mAh battery. However, it is a good compromise. On the one hand, in fact, the autonomy is still appreciable, above the average of any other traditional smartphone, and even reaches two days with average use. On the other hand, it was possible for Cubot to create a rugged not too bulky, thinner than usual and, as far as possible, more compact. Moreover, the presence of USB-C allows fast charging up to 9V / 2A. This means that in about an hour of charging you can reach 65% of battery, ensuring the user a day and a half of autonomy
In terms of connectivity, there is no lack of NFC, a USB-C port on the bottom, LTE Cat 6 class modem up to 300 Mbps in download and 50 Mbps upload. In addition, it has OTG support, GPS and Glonass module, Gyroscope, magnetic sensor and compass. Of course, Dual Sim (Nano Sim) and Dual Standby.
Conclusions
Cubot King Kong 3 is a rugged phone that pleases for its design, all in all, more compact than many other competitors in the category. You will still struggle to keep it in your pocket, but its size and appearance are more acceptable than other much bulkier models. In terms of connectivity it has everything you need, the multimedia department allows you to take home some sufficient shots. Resistance and autonomy are what one would expect from a rugged terminal. Plus it is very well assembled and built.
