Aesthetics
Umidigi A3 counts everything, or almost everything, on aesthetics. At the opening of the package there is a protective cover that offers a good grip, rather minimal, but with a rough pattern that you may not like. Considering the cost of the terminal, which is really low, the advice is to enjoy the aesthetics of the device without cases of any kind.
Also because, we anticipate immediately, aesthetics is the strong point of the device. Front completely with upper and lower frames not particularly optimized, but perfectly symmetrical, which give the product almost the appearance of a premium terminal.
It is also compact, despite its 5.5 inches diagonal, and offers a solid feel in the hand; however, it does not weigh very little, about 180 grams. On the back, on the other hand, the body is glossy, it holds fingerprints, but also in this case it gives the terminal a premium finish: it looks like a top of the range.
Beautiful, but almost useless, the recess of the Touch ID, oval, which unfortunately unlocks the terminal once in two, if not three. The double rear camera is also beautiful, with LED flash just below: it looks like an iPhone X, more or less.
Technical features
Unfortunately, already at the first start, you realize that the terminal practically belongs to two or three generations ago, in terms of technical characteristics. MTK6739 Quad Core 1.5 GHz processor, only 2 GB of RAM, 5.5 inches screen with HD + resolution and 18: 9 ratio, 16 GB of integrated memory, fortunately expandable without having to give up the dual SIM.
It will be the processor, it will be the 2GB of RAM, the fact is that the terminal is not snappy, nor fast in switching from one app to another. It is a forklift, and as such it must be taken. Its low price and its truly excellent aesthetics make it a modern terminal on the outside, a little less on the inside.
It is suitable for children, or for an adult audience who wants to abandon their flip phone, to enjoy WhatsApp, Youtube and to be able to surf the internet.
It is also suitable as a second phone, but don't think you can go beyond a very basic use. The positive side is also the SIM compartment, which houses two nano SIMs, in addition to the MicroSD slot, which is essential for saving photos. The internal 16 GB are very few.
Software
At the software level we notice a modern UI, and the possibility of hiding the virtual keys to take advantage of the classic gestures introduced by Apple with iPhone X. The choice is really appreciable, while the installed system apps are a little less.
Not because there are many, but because with 16 GB of ROM it would have been the case to leave the user free to download the GO versions of the Google apps. There is, for example, pre-installed Google Map (it cannot be uninstalled), while it would have been appropriate to install Maps Go, also due to the 2 GB of RAM, which are very few in 2018.
Camera
Camera department entrusted to a 8.0MP front sensor, and two 12.0MP + 5.0MP rear cameras. For a 70 euro phone, honestly, we expected a bad photographic department. It will not be excellent, yet a few enough shots can be taken in optimal light conditions.
The colors are acceptable, the degree of details captured is not bad and overall the photos really amaze for this price range, not only when you look at them on the screen, but also when you download them to your PC. Conclusions
Umidigi A3, on an aesthetic level, far exceeds its list value of about 70 euros in this period of Black Friday. On a technical level it is not the maximum of speed, nor of power. Suitable as a forklift, or for an audience that does not have particular needs. With Umidigi A3, the basic Android ecosystem will be exploited, made up of messaging, social and Chrome apps, but without any pretense of fluidity.
