Jabra Elite 65T The wireless portable silence

Home iPhonia iPhone Accessories ,,,,,Anyone who has never tried a pair of wireless earphones (term understood in its entirety, that is really wireless) has no idea of the sense of freedom that these Jabra Elite 65T, the latest model to arrive on the market, offer.

Fashion, born concretely with Apple's AirPods but which has proliferated in different models then, technically requires very complex systems, much more than it seems, because the earphones have to talk to each other and have to talk to the playback system and, as in the case of this model, offer extra features such as an active noise cancellation system.

We have tried them in various areas: in the car, on the tram, on the go and in the office, with different results for a product that necessarily needs some time to be used at its best.

    First contact

The box of the Jabra Elite 65T (which we had already seen at IFA) does not reserve any surprises and inside we find the essential accessories all in plain sight: from the charger case to the real headphones, passing through a blister with the change of the rubbers up to to the MicroUSB cable for charging.

The headphones arrive already paired with each other (although in the instructions it is described how to proceed with a new pairing) and just proceed with the pairing with a smartphone as if it were a pair of normal and not separate Bluetooth headphones.

The earphones are made of plastic, apparently of the same material with which the case is covered externally: the rubber tips instead are made of very soft transparent rubber.

To complete the pairing, just download the Jabra Sound + App, available for iOS and Android which, among all other functions, also offers a convenient online manual for all aspects of the headphones, easily available also in Italian.

Once paired (the headphones offer a Bluetooth 5 connection), the headphones live in symbiosis between the smartphone and the case: once removed and worn, they activate by themselves (operation confirmed by a beep seasoned with a voice confirmation in English) while they automatically deactivate once removed from the ear, pausing playback if necessary.

A button on the right earpiece allows you to activate the most important functions, such as playback control, ambient noise control, telephone answering and voice assistant.

In the other earphone there are two small (perhaps too much) buttons for volume control.

Ultimately, the IP55 certification protects them from dust and splashes of water (so no shower or diving, be careful), with a two-year warranty for this type of damage.

    Wireless for real

The smart operation of the earphones is excellent and flawless: once extracted from the case they turn on and immediately connect to the smartphone and, once worn, activate all the functions.

A sensor understands when we are wearing them or not, so just remove one to pause music or movie playback: paired operation works very well, but the right earphone, which is the Master one where the control resides, can also work alone.

The charge is quite good: in our tests we can validate the declared 5 hours of continuous operation from full charge, a very interesting data considering on the one hand the small size and on the other the presence of a Noise-canceling system, on which we return shortly. : Once placed in the case, the headphones are recharged three times, bringing the duration to 15 hours.

The case also offers fast charging, so with 15 minutes of charging you can have up to 1.5 hours of operation.

Considering the possible duration and the use, even extreme of the headphones, we can say that the 15 hours estimated cover abundantly all the uses foreseen by the market segment, with the exception perhaps of those who see the Jabra Elite 65T as earphones to always keep on 8 o 10 hours a day, which they are not meant for.

    Noise canceling always active

For how they are built and for how they work, it is inevitable to think that the Jabra Elite 65T offers incredible freedom when worn: no wires and perfect automatism, basically what one asks for a truly wireless pair of headphones.

Yet Jabra wanted to do more with this model: compared to several competitors, in fact, the Jabra Elite 65T also offers an active noise-canceling system, a very important aspect to consider carefully.

Aside from the fact that being in-ear headphones, some of the external sound is muffled by default, the Jabra Elite 65T are built in a very particular way. As far as we have understood, the NC system is always active, with a HearThrough command (Surrounding audio mode) which on the one hand cancels the external noise, on the other hand it reproduces it as perceived by the microphone.

Recensione Jabra Elite 65T, il silenzio portatile wireless

In practice it is not that we hear the external noise directly, but only filtered by the microphone, according to what is established by the App, which translates into an almost identical result, were it not for a certain artificiality of the noises, which are divided by frequencies.

With Surround Sound Mode off, low frequencies are almost completely absent (apart from the louder ones, like a truck driving away) while for the mids and highs there is a fairly strong reduction, but not total.

The result is that with Surround Sound Mode off we hear clearly when a person talks to us while otherwise external noises are almost completely absent.

We remind you that the use of an active noise cancellation system in a pair of headphones can become dangerous when we are out and about, especially on the street, if we are not careful: we may not hear a car coming or someone calling us from afar , it is necessary to make the other senses more active such as sight, in order to compensate for the silence, which is instead very interesting in situations such as on a plane, train or office.

Finally, we are not sure but we think that the noise reduction system interferes a bit in the audio of the phone calls, because we have noticed a decay in the signal quality when there are very loud external noises, although this is a defect that could be corrected via software.

    The Jabra Sound + App

Even if the App is not, so to speak, necessary for the correct functioning of the headphones, it is inevitable that it becomes necessary for a complete use of the Jabra Elite 65T in all its functions.

The App is very complete and detailed: it has three different sets to its credit that regulate the equalization of the sound in the headphones, the surrounding audio mode (which in any case can be activated and deactivated directly via the button on the headphones), presets for the equalization and the Soundscape function (something that can be translated into Soundscape), which basically collects a set of ambient noises (waves, squirrels, chirps, storms but also pink noise, white noise, fan, waterfall and immersion) which replace music for various functions, from relaxation to sound tests.

The App then integrates a series of tips for the use of headphones and for the choice of the voice assistant (to be chosen between Alexa and one of the default phone, SIRI in our case).

Basically, the App is good and does the job for which it is designed, which is full support for the headphones: something is missing, such as the ability to manage the various sets without having to open the App on the phone (perhaps directly from the headphones) and greater rationality of the commands, with perhaps a simpler and more immediate interface for the main commands.

We wouldn't mind having a small music player inside the App, so we don't have to use two different Apps one for music and one for equalization, but this is more of a finesse than a necessity.

    Music maestro

The last aspect to check with regard to headphones is undoubtedly the musical one. In this we are to tell the truth a bit torn: in our opinion the audio (ranging from 20Hz to 20 kHz) is good, considering that in a very small device there are different systems, from sound to noise reduction, up to double communication (the one with the smartphone and the one between the two earphones).

The audio is good and gives credit to most of the songs we have heard: it works best with songs not too full of bass, such as disco music, and not even with very symphonic songs, in which something is lost, but for the pop music and largely also for Live and speech offer good listening (ditto for films and TV series).

All this, however, by putting his hand to the equalizer (and maybe getting help from the presets). Without these the judgment drops by one vote because the answer is not able to adapt, on its own, to the needs of all the pieces, privileging only some types.

    Final remarks

Jabra Elite 65T are a pair of earphones whose operation is excellent, suitable for everyday nomadic life and for use with any App (even games, a factor not to be underestimated), capable of offering on the one hand a profound freedom of movement and on the other hand an excellent user experience, both for automatic activation and for the use of Noise canceling, which must however be used with full knowledge of the facts.

The musical aspect is good, with the possibility of making it great for those who want to get their hands on equalization: obviously things improve for those who, luckier than the writer, usually have quite limited musical tastes in the range.

The headphones are designed for casual use, and we endorse this: for sport it is better to opt for something else, with perhaps a stronger ear attachment to stresses (such as the Jabra Elite Active 65T model for example) and greater resistance to stress. 'water.

Pro : • Flawless and fully automated operation • Durability is in accordance with use • Active noise cancellation is useful but caution is needed

Against : • The App works very well but the interface can be improved • In environments with a lot of external noises it is difficult to use the phone
