Home Reviews ,,,,,QacQoc GN30H is the USB-C HUB that we used during the trial period of the new MacBook Pro 2018 for both desktop and mobile use.
The product convinced us for various reasons, but above all because any user who ventures into the world of USB-C for the first time finds himself a little lost and needs concrete help to help him in his choice, because the format is all 'other than definitive.
QacQoc GN30H in its possible colors, even if at the moment only one is available in Italy
QacQoc GN30H, the review
QacQoc, young but on the right path
The QacQoc brand is not very well known in Italy, even if we at Cyber Layman have already talked about it on the occasion of the QacQoc GN22A model of which this QacQoc GN30H is the natural evolution, perhaps a little less stylized but much more powerful and versatile.
On the other hand, however, the brand certainly knows its stuff: the products are very good and the attention to detail, which every Mac user appreciates, is taken into consideration.
You can already understand this from the packaging, where the HUB is placed inside, at the center of a soft shaped rubber, but also an elegant velvet envelope very useful then when the product remains in the bag, without clashing with cables, keys , metal hard drive or, worse, the satin surface (and we don't know how resistant) of the 2018 MacBook Pro.
All the gates of the world, or almost
Aesthetically, the QacQoc GN30H looks like a small tile of the same gray color as the MacBook Pro 2018.
On the sides, two white bands accompany one the USB-C cable that leads to the computer, the other the input for the Gigabit Ethernet network port, which joins the side USB-C port that we can use to power everything through the cable USB-C / Thunderbolt standard on MacBook Pro (or other computers, the HUB also works in Windows).
These ports are flanked by three USB-A ports, a 4K HDMI, an SD reader, a second MicroSD reader and a small blue light that indicates operation.

The beautiful part of the HUB is basically this: the little one can manage data streams (USB-A, SD and Micro SD) simultaneously with network (Ethernet) and video (HDMI) streams without problems, which means that, for the vast majority of cases, having this in your bag when you're shooting with your MacBook Pro or MacBook, you don't need anything else.
Power management isn't bad either: thanks to USB-C's increased range, a single port can power a LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt mechanical drive while this piece is written, connected here via USB-A for convenience. a SanDisk iXPand USB 3.0 stick and charge a 9.7 2018 iPad, all powered via the USB-C output connector.
By removing the connector (thus taking advantage of the MacBook Pro 2018 battery), the disk and the key continued to work correctly, while the iPad went into “Not charging” mode, thus being able to manage it for synchronization and use at wire but without the energy recharge.
Back on battery, we quietly used SD cards for copying RAW documents to the computer, using the USB 3.0 channel.
Defects? You need to be picky to find and challenge the physical limits of current technology: for example, the QacQoc GN30H heats up a bit when connected to multiple devices being charged and, basically, we would have liked an extra USB-C port (in addition to the charging one ), mostly for MacBooks (in the MacBook Pro there are three more free), in addition to the fact that a VGA port is missing which, albeit less and less, in hotels here and still serves it.
Conclusions
The QacQoc GN30H is an excellent device to keep in your bag: (quite) compact, comfortable, pleasing to the eye (as much as a HUB can be) but above all very versatile and ready to use.
The objective limits that the HUB can have are to be amputated, as we have seen, to the capacity of the technology itself (so if you want it to work perfectly it must be powered) and all in all we see it well also as a Dock for the desk, even if it is more suitable for the bag or the office.
