This is a charger with cigarette lighter plug equipped with a larger head (4.5 x 3.5 x 1.5 cm) than normal car chargers: all normal since compared to others not it only recharges the smartphone but, as mentioned, it brings various useful features into the passenger compartment.

The whole body is made of polycarbonate, with a frame that aesthetically recalls the spare parts of the car made of fiber

The contacts are made of metal and are quite sturdy: they are hard to crush with the fingers and therefore ensure a firm hold here ndo is plugged into the car's cigarette lighter socket.

The two USB sockets are recessed on the front side, one side by side from the abbreviation IQ to indicate that that specific port is able to recharge any device at maximum power, up to 2.4 A. The other USB port can possibly recharge another device (delivers maximum 1.5 A) but mainly acts as an MP3 player at the moment in which you connect a USB pen that contains it.

In addition to the hole for the microphone, there are three buttons to manage music playback and hands-free phone calls, while on the lower edge there is a socket AUX for cable connection to the car radio.

Anker Roav F2 appears solid and robust overall, with a minimal appearance and an aggressive design due to the black body with carbon-like finishes and the contacts fluorescent orange.

    How it works

First you need to put Anker on Roav F2 in the car cigarette lighter socket. The power supply of the latter will turn on the display hidden under the USB sockets (if it does not turn on, turn the key and start the car).

At this point all you have to do is take the smartphone and search for Anker Roav F2 in the list of Bluetooth devices nearby, pair the phone with the accessory, then select an empty FM station on the car stereo and scroll with the> keys to select the same frequency on the device.

From this moment the smartphone is connected via Bluetooth to the car radio and you can use the vehicle's audio system to listen to the music playing on the phone, read MP3s from a USB key connected to the secondary USB socket or manage the Hands-free phone calls: just press the key marked with the handset to answer an incoming call or long press it to reject it.

    The app

Better handling of Anker Roav F2 is guaranteed by the application Roav Charger available for free on the App Store for iPhone and Play Store for Android. With the app it is possible to adjust the radio frequency in one click, customize the settings and use the device as a GPS sensor to automatically save the position of the parked car on the map.

Thanks to the connection Bluetooth with the smartphone, in fact, when we get out of the car and move away from it, the app is able to use the GPS of the phone to mark the position of the car on the map as soon as the Bluetooth connection between smartphone and Anker Roav F2, thus allowing us to easily remember where we parked the car.

A special app card is instead dedicated to the vehicle battery: in fact this accessory also acts as a monitor signaling any battery malfunctions.

    How is it going

Wireless transmission is great. As long as the selected FM radio frequency remains empty there will be no interference, proving to be a good solution to put Bluetooth in the car when you stay in the city.

The situation is different when traveling: if the frequency seems free in another city it is occupied by a radio station, then the latter will take precedence. The smartphone will continue to be connected to the receiver and all music playing (or any phone call in progress) will continue to play without interruption but cannot be listened to until a new empty frequency is found.

As for hands-free phone calls, the built-in microphone works very well, acquiring our voice with a good volume while driving (a lot depends on the position in which the charger is located: in our case right under the car radio, with the microphone oriented almost in the direction of our mouth).

The central button is very convenient for answering phone calls, as it is accompanied by a small notch in relief that facilitates recognition by touch even without look at the charger, i.e. being able to keep your eyes glued to the road while driving. From the point of view of telephone calls, it may be convenient to connect the charger to the car radio via AUX cable (not included in the package) as all possible interference is thus eliminated.
