In test the anti mosquito lamp, 13 euros to sleep peacefully

Home Reviews ,,,,, In this article we have explained in depth how an anti mosquito lamp works, a low tech product that seems to have captured the attention of users, especially in these hot summer months, when mosquitoes and other insects disturb everyone's nights. Taken by curiosity, we tried one. Here's how it went.

The lamp, we anticipate immediately, has a cost of just 13 euros. This is a very small amount, when compared to the sprays or oils that usually fit into other electric anti-insect contraptions. It has a particular shape, with an inverted pyramid, which emits the ultraviolet light beam, which is used to carry out mosquito killing, attracting insects into the trap. Contrary to what one might initially think, the lamp does not act as an electric mosquito net, like those of the past, in which the mosquitoes were literally toasted in contact with the metal grid.

The lamp we are testing attracts mosquitoes with a simple beam of ultraviolet light, and then pushes them, through a small fan, into a trap container placed on the lower part. The latter is removable, to be emptied if necessary as if it were a common ashtray.

The lamp in question is, therefore, safe, being able to touch and move it even when it is in operation, without worrying about getting a shock or hurting your fingers. The small internal fan, which spins to catch mosquitoes, is protected by the external plastics, and there is no way to come into contact with your fingers. It is therefore a child-resistant lamp.

It connects to the electrical outlet via a common USB cable, which is also used to recharge mobile phones. It has no internal battery, which is why it needs direct current for its operation. It turns on and off via a physical button on the top.

But does it work?

We lit it with a little skepticism, and tested it for several days in the villa surrounded by lawns, in bathing areas, therefore fertile ground for flies, mosquitoes and other small annoying insects. It works, we do not know what percentage it has caught insects and mosquitoes, but it is enough to remove the lid at the bottom to see in practice that the insects are actually captured. We will apologize if we do not want to photograph them, but know that on the bottom of the lamp, after a few hours in operation, there were mosquitoes, but also other types of insects, even very small ones. Honestly, we don't know how they got there: the fact is that they were, and they kept company with numerous mosquitoes.

We reiterate the concept: it is not possible to establish in what percentage the mosquitoes in the room have captured, but it certainly works, no worse than other much more expensive and often harmful solutions for humans. Considering that the lamp costs just 13 euros, you have to give it a chance.

The downside is around the corner: the fan inside the lamp makes noise. It is bearable, like a small fan, but thinking about keeping the lamp on during the night is not advisable, also because the beam of light, inside a completely dark room, does not go unnoticed. it is concentrated in the pre-sleep hours: we turned it on in the dark room a few hours before going to bed, and we turned it off during the night.

The mosquito repellent lamp works, it's a nice idea, and it's very cheap. It will not be able to stay on all night unless you are willing to accept the noise of the fan and the glare of the light, in order not to hear mosquitoes flitting around the room.

On GearBest the model we tested costs just 13 euros.
