Laptop backpack review by Lixada, with USB socket and waterproof fabric

Home Reviews ,,,,, Lixada sent us to test a PC backpack that is very particular in shape and materials. It is significantly wider than others and has room to accommodate a laptop as well, with various pockets tailored for smaller devices and accessories. It offers an external USB socket to easily recharge a device using an internally connected power bank, the main pocket is anti-theft and overall does not need rain covers as all the external fabric is water repellent.

As did

The backpack has a capacity of 30 liters. When squashed, it measures approximately 46cm high by 41cm wide. It is precisely the latter that is superior to the norm, leading to an almost square-shaped backpack. Whether you like it or not is subjective, but this conformation is dictated by a very specific choice, that of wrapping part of the side edges to “hide” the two side pockets, which have enough space for various objects. Speaking of pockets, specifically we have:

  • A front pocket, on the lower edge of the backpack, with a large capacity. It is similar in conformation to a large pouch. Inside there are two compartments to further separate other objects
  • Two side pockets (mentioned above) hidden from view
  • The main pocket, with anti-tear and anti-theft opening (located on the inside of the backrest, so when worn it is impossible to access it)

The inside of the main pocket is very large. On one side there is a hinge that allows access to the connection cable of the externally installed USB socket. It is possible to extract it to connect it to a powerbank and thus be able to take advantage of the USB output on the move.

On the side of the main pocket that turns towards the back we find a large compartment capable of accommodating a laptop. We tried with our MacBook Pro Retina 15 '': we are at the limit, but if you want you can carry it with this backpack. Certainly a 13 '', a 12 '' or a smaller computer are more suitable in the pocket, thanks also to the elastic with velcro closure that locks it inside.

Hanging from the edge of the compartment we find a lace at the end of which a carabiner is installed, useful for hanging a bunch of keys to always have at hand. Below, two other pockets to separate the objects contained inside the backpack.

The backrest is sufficiently padded as well as the shoulder straps are comfortable and comfortable. They are held together on the upper edge by a handle, useful for carrying the backpack even with one hand.

The adjustment of the shoulder straps is easy: just pull the two protruding ends to tighten them and pull the backpack towards each other, vice versa with a slight upward bending of the plastic clip that maintains the size it is possible to loosen the grip.

The seams look very good but the greatest value of the backpack lies, as mentioned, in the external PU fabric, a sort of faux leather that completely resists water, thus being proof against water balloons and summer storms.

    Our test

We have replaced it with the backpack that we normally use to carry the computer on the commute from home to work together with the other small accessories. As mentioned, there is certainly no lack of space and the various pockets have allowed us to better divide the various devices. For example, we made the most of the lanyard to hang the keys, which is really convenient because it allows us to find them at first sight even by putting one hand in the backpack and without necessarily having to open the entire pocket.

The two internal pockets were very useful for holding sunglasses, a notebook and the wallet, while in the main compartment there is space for a well-folded sweatshirt, together with the Kindle, a case with various accessories (cables, USB sticks, adapters, etc.) and the power bank connected to the external socket.

In one of the two external side pockets we put the identity card, a pair of wired headphones and a 5000 mAh portable powerbank for emergencies, in the other a package of tissues, adhesive tape and retractable ruler.

In the wider lower pocket we have placed another case with medicines and other first aid accessories, an envelope (always useful for last-minute shopping), pens and pencils to use if necessary.

Our opinion is overall positive: the backpack is comfortable to wear, the backrest is sufficiently soft and the ease with which the length of the shoulder straps can be adjusted has allowed us to tighten it while moving and loosen it quickly just before removing it. To be perfect, in our opinion, a strap is missing to be able to tighten it on the chest and unload part of the weight at full load.

    Conclusions

Aesthetically, it didn't totally convince us. Its square shape in our eyes is not the best to see especially if the wearer is small in build. Two side straps would have been enough to tighten the external camber when the backpack is not fully loaded to make it perhaps less bulky and more attractive to look at. Leaving aside this purely subjective aspect, the backpack is very good especially for the materials and for the multitude of pockets, in our opinion essential for those looking for a bag to use all day and every day.

The tailor-made compartment of a PC and the external USB socket make it even more interesting for those who carry their technological devices with them and want to have a door that is easily accessible at any time to be able to recharge smartphones and cameras on the move.

    Retail price

The Lixada backpack is on sale on Amazon for 29.99 euros.
