Aukey M30 review, the design speaker with dedicated subwoofer

Home Reviews ,,,,,

In the past few days we have tried Aukey M30, a Bluetooth speaker designed for indoor music listening. With fabric covered shell and a regular and minimalist design, it is ideal for amplifying music wirelessly in the living room or on the office desk. It connects to older generation peripherals via cable and can also play continuously for twelve hours, proving to be a valid ally also for quickly answering hands-free phone calls. The strong point is in the dedicated subwoofer, which amplifies the bass and offers a clean sound unmatched with speakers of equal power.

How it's made

The design, as we said, is really elegant. The body, elliptical in shape, is flattened in the front and front sides and is completely covered in black fabric, for a final clean and linear appearance.

The buttons for the remote control of music playback, specifically in addition to the On / Off button for switching the device on and off, we find the Multifunction button, a Play / Pause button and the (+) and (-) buttons to adjust the volume or jump between tracks.

  • Measurements: about 21 x 11 x 6 centimeters
  • Weight: 805 grams
  • The base is very wide, with a rubberized surface to improve grip when placed on a smooth surface, and shows the frontal microphone hole on the right and an LED indicator on the left , while on the back we find the microUSB sockets for recharging the internal battery and the 3.5mm audio jack port for connecting MP3 players, computers and other audio sources.

A with The distinguishing feature of this speaker is the subwoofer, visible on both sides of the case: a polished metal plate protects the driver, visibly vibrating during music playback even at medium-low volumes. It is the real strength of this speaker which, as we will explain later, enjoys excellent audio quality.

    How are you doing

We tried it with our usual playlists that we have been using for some time to test all audio products. Where the speaker has exceeded our expectations is in the sound power: the 20W declared by the manufacturer translate into a speaker that at maximum volume is really very powerful, especially in the reproduction of low frequencies due to the built-in subwoofer. By approaching the ear to the speaker, it turns out that for the latter there is also a specially dedicated driver on the back of the speaker, while the medium-high frequencies are reproduced through the speaker located below the front side.

With the volume at 30% you have a speaker which, inside a room or a small office, is capable of amplifying the music, creating an unobtrusive background atmosphere and which, if placed to one side of the room, allows you to talk quietly with a person without being overwhelmed by the sound. At 50% of the volume it has the same effect in a medium-sized living room or shop, while between 70% and 100% you have in your hands a speaker capable of filling a room, quietly overpowering any buzz of 4 people talking to each other.

The audio quality of the speaker is however appreciated with a volume of at least 70%. The sound is enveloping and the voices seem to come out of the box, as in the case of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. The bass, although always quite present, give the best with the volume at the maximum: the bass line in Jimi Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower makes the side plates vibrate conspicuously, with a yield superior to that of most of the speakers of this size.

As for the battery, the specifications speak of a 4,000 mAh component. In practical use, we were able to listen to music via Bluetooth from the smartphone for over 10 hours at maximum volume, almost half of what is guaranteed by speakers of equal power and battery capacity. Probably the higher consumption can be attributed to the presence of a dedicated subwoofer which, however, does not make us regret the need to recharge the speaker approximately once a week (with an average listening of 1 hour per day).

    Conclusions

Aukey M30 is a good speaker and if design is a fundamental part of the choice, then it can be a valid solution for carefree listening to music from smartphones and tablets (but why not, also to amplify music and system sounds of the computer). The dedicated subwoofer is the strong point, making it preferable to solutions of equal power not only in listening to music but also in the combined use with some video games on tablets and computers, thanks also to the excellent three-dimensionality of the sound.

    Retail price

Aukey M30 is on sale on Amazon for 49.99 euros.
