To date, the greatest innovations related to the world of peripherals in general are mostly seen in the world of gaming, but it is also true that the same technologies can be applied to many other sectors, in particular in all those that require high precision, ergonomics and quality of materials.
Abyssus Essential, here on the Goliathus Chroma mat
Thus Abyssus Essential presents itself as a product positioned in an entry level range as regards the price, but which still brings the ergonomics, precision and other delicacies of Razer's top mice (among the best we mention the Basilisk, DeathAdder Elite and definitely the Lancehead).
During the trial period, then, we also had the opportunity to try it together with the Razer Goliathus Chroma mat, soft but with RGB lighting: a convincing combination even if obviously both products can also be designed alone or in combination with other products.
Abyssus Essential, also goes where it shouldn't
The Abyssus Essential package is strictly essential and contains only the mouse, a small brochure and the classic Razer stickers: officially the mouse is not compatible with Mac but the question is purely related to the Synapse drivers, but once connected the Apple drivers see it fine and the mouse works very well.
The absence of the Synapse drivers makes you lose something, such as the ability to control the brightness but above all the resolution, which in any case is expected to be very good and certainly better than the competition at the same price range.
From the hardware point of view, the shape resembles that of the Atheris, but slightly more elongated and more comfortable to use all day: the shape is ambidextrous, and there are the two main buttons plus the wheel (clickable, but on Mac not makes a difference).
Compared to the last incarnation of the Abyssus, this model gains precision, which goes numerically from 5,000 to 7,200 dpi (an increase that could still be used by a few) and the Chroma lighting that goes from three colors to the classic 16.8 million: probably c 'is also a change of chip inside, we have not found reliable data on the network but the age is right for this, while the optical technology remains adopted, ideal for this type of use.
Goliathus Chroma, squire so to speak
We mentioned at the beginning the use of the soft mat Goliathus Chroma, one of the first soft mats with RGB lighting: the combination with Abyssus Essential is perfect partly because of the price but also for the lighting which, if both are connected to the Mac starts up, stays in sync and is as pretty as it is during the day as it is at night.
The mat, which has the dimensions of 255 mm X 355 mm X 3 mm, is currently only available in this version, but a larger edition (which extends over the entire desk and which is stationed under the keyboard) is coming. soon.

Goliathus Chroma is basically a rectangle of fabric made ad hoc: in the upper part the surface is designed to optimize the movement of the mouse, increase precision and offer an extremely comfortable softness.
The lower part has a viscous rubber, which prevents the mat from sliding on the desk.
All around the mat, sewn with a black thread, there is a small soft neon, capable of showing, in an alternative way, 16.8 million colors. The light gets its energy from a braided USB-A cable located at the top, where there is also a grommet for the mouse cable.
The only drawback in the solution, in our opinion, is the lack of a USB-A cable outlet, which would have spared a USB-A connector that today are very popular in computers.
The writer prefers the mats of a larger shape, especially for the great comfort they offer in the movement surface of the mouse, but it must be said that this mat is more than enough in the workspace to complete the normal activity of who works and who plays, in an unprofessional way.

Considerations
The experience with both has been more than positive and, although it is undeniable that neither of us necessarily needs the other, our opinion is that together they work much better and that each can offer the best together with the other (as regards the pad, however, also works well with other mice).
Abyssus Essential is undeniably a Razer mouse, with all the features, charm and potential (which on Windows have something more): it works well, is versatile and far better than many mice of the same price both in appearance. and for convenience.
Obviously it cannot hold its own against the higher-end models, but for those looking for a second mouse or a precise, reliable model with the idea of the budget in mind, this is an interesting choice.

The use in combination with the mat is undoubtedly a must: the writer has been using similar products for years, and even if not indispensable, this new generation of soft mats (above all) is indispensable for anyone who tries them (and understands the difference ).
