Dodocool DA149 review, the bluetooth speaker that looks like a diamond

Home Hi-Tech Audio / Video / TV / Streaming ,,,,, From Dodocool comes another Bluetooth speaker that tries to challenge competitors due to its unrivaled autonomy and thanks to its rather particular shape. Certainly, shape and autonomy only half describe the peripheral, because the important thing is also the sound quality. We will find out how it sounds in the course of our article.

Inside the Dodocool package, in addition to the speaker, it also provides the microUSB cable for charging and a small plastic stand that allows the speaker to “remain standing”. On an aesthetic level, the peripheral is quite large and bulky, and has a shape that, with good imagination, can be compared to a diamond. On the front stand the three action buttons, very showy and raised, so that they can always be reached with the utmost simplicity. These allow you to raise or lower the volume, and to pause, or resume, music playback.

On the back, however, in addition to the small power button, various inputs are also available. Not only the canonical one of the 3.5mm jack, but also a Full size USB and a microSD input. These allow you to expand the sources from which to listen to music. Therefore, not only will it be possible to connect your smartphone in bluetooth, but you will be able to listen to songs from an external USB stick or from a microSD.

How it sounds

At Dodocool we have reviewed other audio peripherals, remaining positively impressed, such as the micro speaker that also takes selfies. This is why we placed medium-high expectations on the DA149. While partly positive, the evidence also revealed some negative sides. First of all, after the bluetooth pairing, the speaker returns a rather annoying background hum. This happens with both Android devices and iPhones or iPads. In playback, the hum tends to be overwhelmed by the music, but it doesn't go away entirely. The most attentive will almost always stay tuned to this little background rustle, unless you turn the volume to the maximum.

In general, the audio quality is not bad, it is sufficient and the volume is particularly high. It suffers a bit on the bass, which although present, fail to return that feeling of “power” that instead emanates from more expensive and higher-end speakers. At particularly loud volumes the peripheral appears not to be too controlled, with some degree of distortion present. Considering the selling price, overall the audio quality is not bad, but we are certainly not looking at an audiophile device.

Autonomy

Positive aspect, however, is the integrated battery of 2000 mAh, which offers a really important autonomy, of about 7 hours in playback. We also found that the speaker, when in stand-by, consumes very little, and this is thanks to the mechanism that turns off the device after a few minutes of inactivity.

Conclusion

Dodocool D149 costs on Amazon costs 29.99 euros. If you like the shape it could be an advisable purchase, but having to wait for only sufficient audio, with a background hum that tends to disappear only if the volume is set at the highest levels. Excellent autonomy, as well as the presence of different sources from which to listen to music.
