Aukey Qi wireless charger review

Aukey Qi wireless charger review

Home Reviews ,,,,,We bought the white version of Aukey's Qi-standard wireless charger on Amazon: a product that predates the launch of the iPhone 8, iPhone X and Apple Watch Series 3 but is actually perfectly compatible with these devices (although we must add a note in this regard) and which costs at the time of writing less than 14 euros.

The device is available in two colors: black and white. It is circular in size and small, about 12 cm, weighs about 49 grams and is often just over half a centimeter, with a bright LED that changes color or flashes to indicate the activity in progress. It comes with a micro Usb to Usb A cable but there is no wall charger.

It is an ideal tool not only for home but also on the go, if you want to replicate the convenience of having a wireless charger with Qi technology that is not only cheap enough to be left in another room than a more structured one, but also for disappear in the bag or backpack during, for example, a trip or vacation. The device is Qi certified and therefore we were able to test it with the iPhone 8: but it is also compatible with iPhone X and should also be compatible with Apple Watch Series 3 when Apple updates the watch firmware with an update. Apple's timepiece, adding this functionality.

Aukey Qi Wireless Charger Review

We connected the device to various chargers with different amperages to see if the rate at which it charges a phone changed in any way. We have seen that after an hour with basically all the chargers, including Apple's 2.5 Volt one (the largest rectangular one, for iPad, so to speak) it takes about half an hour to reach 20% of the iPhone charge. 8, in line with the performance of the iPhone charger itself and with that of other Qi wireless chargers.

The operation of the LED light allows you to indicate both the state of charge and the mode in which the charger is located: white when connected to an electricity source, flashes between green and white when charging begins, stops when charging is complete. The operation is great but sensitive to the movement of the phone. You can also charge the iPhone 8 with the original Apple leather case but if you manipulate the phone and move it the charge stops and the phone must be removed and reattached to be resumed.

Another apparent defect, but it is linked to the technology used, is the coupling of the micro usb plug which, following the round profile of the edge of the wireless charger (which in the Aukey catalog is called LC-C2 Qi), disconnects with a certain ease . The fault lies with the short stroke of the micro USB plug and the millimeter or two that are lost due to the curvature of the device: the USB-C would have solved the problem since the plug is deeper and longer, but it would also have significantly increased the cost. of the appliance.

Nevertheless this is one of the cheapest solutions on Amazon and indicatively the best for having a second or third wireless charger to leave perhaps next to the desktop computer or on the bedside table or, as we have already said, to take on the road.

Aukey's Qi Wireless Charger Review: Conclusion

We like the charger for its low price, design and workmanship, with well-shaped plastic, extremely light and robust. However, there are defects: the micro Usb cable is partially disconnected if you move the device without paying attention to it and the charging stops if you move the phone too much.

The surface of this charger makes it the ideal solution for charging one object at a time: we still don't know how Apple's AirPower standard will work and therefore if it will be compatible. The convenience is to be able to charge various devices: the Qi standard is also compatible with the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S6, S6 Edge, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nokia Lumia 920 and various others.

However, if you have little space or in any case you risk touching and moving the charger frequently, perhaps this solution is not the best: it takes very little to disconnect it or to make the charging fail, and in any case the charging times are very long and require the use of a cable and a charger not supplied as standard.

Aukey's wireless charger can be bought from here for 13.99 euros, in two colors: white and black
