AUKEY Mechanical keyboard review for gaming: our review

Home Hi-Tech Games and Consoles ,,,,,

The new AUKEY Mechanical Keyboard for gaming is a mixture of convenience, precision, colors and a good dose of courage from the Chinese company, which in this sector is measure with names such as Corsair, Logitech and Razer (in any case more expensive on average) against which you must measure with respect but apparently without having anything to fear.

And in fact the road is that right and although in its merits Aukey has in its DNA the identity of a product that must be within everyone's pocket, the characteristics are there and offers a more than positive impression.

Recensione tastiera Meccanica AUKEY

The mechanical keyboard brings the Outemu Blue Switches as a dowry, basically a clone of the most famous Cherry Blu: for those who are not in the sector, in the field of mechanical keyboards for “Switches” we mean the type of key, and in this case it is an element designed for very intense use, both in gaming sessions and he during normal activity.

The Blue Switches are characterized by a metallic click that gives the impression of a marked precision, so much so that they are the best to avoid the “ghost” effect, which in practice means the effect we have when we put our fingers on the keys and they understand if the key has really been pressed or not.

Tastiera Meccanica AUKEY A detail of a key

In this keyboard, as suggested, this does not happen, and indeed, the best thing is that to write you have to work hard on the keys: the stroke is quite long and the pressure required on each key requires a certain conviction , so much so that if you write wrong, you certainly have the wrong key.

Of course, switching from a Membrane keyboard (like the Apple one, so to speak) to a mechanical is a nice change, something ranging from traumatic to fantastic, but after some tests and some curse, you get used to the daily routine, even if how to see mo the keyboard is designed, and offers its best, in areas other than those of writing.

AUKEY Mechanical Keyboard, a black that slims

The first impression is more than good: the box is quite anonymous but the keyboard arrives with an easily removable thin protection and is ready in a flash.

Inside the package there is also a small plastic hook designed for the extraction of the keys, which can be easily done: we immediately reversed some keys to reproduce the same layout we are used to, because although the keyboard is configured for the Italian market, the reference one is the Windows world and on Mac some function keys are reversed.

The USB-A cable is braided and very long, and the keyboard, which is basically an extended keyboard without the numeric keypad, is missing in our notice of a USB HUB that would have been useful for the mouse.

In the lower part there are two folding feet , which are useful to physically raise the keyboard and make it more tilted (phase more useful in writing than during games).

The dimensions are important (435 x 122 x 49mm) but it will be black or the lack of the keypad, to us it seems small, so much so that it fits very well on the desk and does not clutter more than it should.

On the other hand, the weight is interesting, which allows the keyboard to remain fixed in any place what you do, and to move only if you want it: at the same time, the bag fits easily due to its reduced length.

Lights, action!

At the first connection you immediately notice the carousel of lights: a very beautiful motif runs through the entire keyboard as if it were a s harp that arrives at the letter “O” and then moves the lighting to all the keys. A play of light that lasts a couple of seconds but which is very nice to see (especially for those who have never seen a gaming keyboard), and arrives at every switch on.

For the rest l The proposed LED lighting is interesting, with all the keys illuminated so as to allow users to use the keyboard even in the dark.

The real nature can be glimpsed in the lights: by default the keyboard is completely switched on but thanks to pre-installed macros it is possible to sector lighting to highlight only some keys (turning off the others), useful factor in some games, where only some keys are essential.

In the instruction manual it is stated that it is possible to register customized sets of lights , in order to turn on only the keys that are fundamental for us: we have tried, but the procedure is very cumbersome and we have not obtained great results, although it must be said c h and the default presets cover all known game types (for normal activity it is better to leave the entire keyboard on).

Compatibility

Compatibility with macOS is turned out almost perfect. The Command and Alt key must be manually reversed and other customizations can be done with third party software. Aukey could in fact have proposed an ad hoc software, but we understand that the video game market is still too much in the hands of Windows for investments of this type, and we appreciated that official compatibility also arrives for Mac without crossings of any kind.

In normal use we appreciated the noise of Outemu's Blue Switches, in our opinion a half-tone lower than those of Cherry but equally capable in normal use.

We also tried to “mistreat the keyboard”, simulating some recrimination about an unfair defeat with punches on the keys without any effect (if not some error message from the system …).

Last aspect , not essential but very useful, is that the metal surface is water resistant, so if during an alien attack the bottle falls by chance, don't pay attention and keep aiming and firing.

Aukey, the unexpected read zza dell'essere

The judgment on the AUKEY Mechanical Keyboard is therefore more than positive: although it is not a flagship product, it offers all the features necessary for a full experience in the world of mechanical keyboards (the click of the Blue switches is loud, a bit like a Harley-Davidson loud) and for a faithful companion in gaming sessions, be they occasional or something more.

All at an official price of 45.99 euros, while we write these lines discounted at 37.99 euros, so very affordable for any Mac user who wants a playmate suitable for night sessions, or who is simply tired of silence. Apple keyboards.

Pro :

  • Contained but functional form
  • Led lighting, with ad hoc preset
  • Interesting price / performance ratio
  • Against:

  • A USB HUB is missing
  • The enlightenment of some keys is partial
  • Price : 37.99 euro
