Home Reviews ,,,,,We recently tried the Mpow MPBH059AH headphones, an acronym that says nothing but which in any case labels a specific model of the manufacturer with large supra-aural pavilions and a structure capable of being folded to facilitate transport.
Starting from the aesthetics, they are mainly made of glossy plastic , overall very light but easy to get dirty: in fact, just pass them through your hands for a few minutes to cover the entire surface with fingerprints. The structure is very flexible (the pavilions can be separated by even 20 centimeters) and with excessive twisting the plastic creaks slightly: inside there is a ' metal core which can be seen when each cap is moved away from the headband to extend its size (up to 2.8 cm) and the various parts are mounted together through some star screws, not really beautiful to look at but certainly functional for the purpose.
In the internal section of the headphones, a large part of the headband which then actually rests on the head is strongly padded with a layer of foam rubber covered with a leather-like fabric that is blocked at the two ends of the headband by means of two metal plates screwed to the structure. This is the part that we liked least: although the writer has his head constantly shaved, lending it to some of our family members, there have not been rare cases in which the hair got entangled in this very point with consequences if we want even a little painful. .
The pavilions are very large: the internal hole measures approximately 5 cm in height and 3 in width and offer a foam padding which, as in the headband, is just as generous ( 1.5cm thick). Both can also be tilted slightly up or down to better adapt to the shape of your head.
Overall, the headphones are not very light (252 grams) but with prolonged use the weight still bears quite well: the problem common to this type of headphones and that we also found with the Mpow under test concerns the pain in the cartilage of the ears. wearing eyeglasses due to the pressure of the pavilions on the temples.
The headphones, as we said, are of the Bluetooth type (4.0) but they can also be connected via cable to save battery or to use them with devices where wireless technology is absent: the cable, 3.5mm jack type , is included in the package together with the microUSB cable for recharging the internal battery. The sockets are located on the bottom of the left and right pavilions respectively. On the external side of the latter, among other things, we find the keypad that allows you to manage music playback directly from the headphones.
From this point of view we point out the independent volume control *: the remote control of many headphones today allow you to control the volume of the multimedia player of the paired device. Here instead we have a second independent volume to control, this means that if we want to be able to increase it to the maximum only from the headphones we will first be forced to bring it to the maximum on the device (in the case of our tests, an iPhone 7) and then control the rest from the headphones.
So we come to the road test *: the maximum volume, and someone with a “delicate” ear tells you, is not so deafening. Outdoors, Guglielmo Tell by Rossini in the highlight of the piece, however, fails to dominate the roar of a car that passes us at a distance of about ten meters while at home he still manages to isolate us from background noises such as the clicking of the keys while we write these lines but not that, for example, of a cell phone ringing a few meters from us.
Power aside, the audio playback quality is average. No frequency excels particularly and the sun in general is less shrill than what is perceived, for example, with Apple's EarPods. The piano in Carribean Blue is quite dark while the bass in Beastie Boys' Brass Monkey is quite present even if we were not particularly impressed.
Conclusions and retail price
The Mpow MPBH059AH headphones are on sale on Amazon for 31.99 euros. At this price, most of the headphones on sale do not offer Bluetooth technology, which is why it could already justify the purchase in the face of the possibility of hooking them to any device via cable if the need arises. Being able to fold them to take up less space in the bag (about 13x17x8 centimeters and a practicality facilitated by the bag included in the package) is another added value.
