Deepoon V3, the lightweight and breathable VR headset for smartphones

Home iPhonia iPhone Accessories ,,,,,Bringing some innovation to the smartphone VR viewer market is Deepoon V3, a solution that we have had in our hands in recent weeks and which differs from the crowd for its more compact, lightweight and breathable structure that makes it much more convenient to use even for a long time.

How it is made

The structure is made of sturdy and high quality plastic. The most obvious difference with common viewers lies in the front side where, instead of finding the drawer for housing the smartphone, the latter must be locked through a spring clip . The system is really ingenious and works very well: the phone remains firmly in the position in which it is left thanks to the rubber thickness (half a centimeter thick) that accompanies the internal surface of the clip, with the dual purpose of not scratching the back of the phone. Even the display is safe from this point of view as the support surface is covered with a soft rubber layer.

This new approach then makes the hooking of the phone immediate and is compatible with most smartphones currently on the market, as long as we have a display with a diagonal between 4.7 inches and 5.7 inches , with or without enclosure. The advantage of this attachment is also reflected in the compatibility of accessories *: the sockets and buttons of the device in use remain completely free, so it will be possible to freely connect the charging cable as well as a pair of wired headphones.

First adjustment

The visor is worn and remains firmly on the head thanks to the help of three bands adjustable in length through the anti-tear velcro . They are mainly made of fabric and interspersed with some elastic sections that allow you to easily wear the viewer without having to adjust the length of each band again, thus making immediate use. in the next days.

Next you will need to adjust the focus distance and lens orientation . It is sufficient to start any VR application, preferably with a static image (you can also momentarily search for one on Google Images), then insert the smartphone in the viewer and rotate the upper wheel, marked by the symbols “+” and “-“, to move the phone display closer or further away from your eyes until the framed image is in focus. At that point all that remains is to move the two lenses away or closer to each other by moving the relative selectors positioned on the base of the viewer until the displayed image is only one.

If up to this point we have only found points in favor for the Deepoon viewer, the first and perhaps only flaw emerges precisely at this stage. Since there is no drawer that holds the phone perfectly in place, the image is likely not in perfect focus. The combination of ring nut and selectors thus finds the right positioning for the smartphone, which must be moved in all directions in small steps until the image is perfectly centered.

How is it going

The strong point, as already explained, is above all in the lightness. Including bands, the viewer weighs just 280 grams , definitely less than the 390-400 grams more common to other viewers on the market. To succeed in this convenient undertaking, the manufacturer has not only eliminated the front tray dedicated to the smartphone but has also lightened the rest of the parts that make up the front mask by combining a soft rubber skeleton with inserts in foam , a material that we find in raw form on the sides to ensure greater skin transpiration through special holes , and covered in soft fabric in the innermost frame, the one in direct contact with the user's face. Part of this reinforcement is also found above the opening dedicated to the nose, a move if nothing else apt but not sufficient (at least for our bony nose) to cushion the weight of the viewer during prolonged use which in fact, even if very lightened, it is completely concentrated in this area of the face.

We were able to bear the weight of the headset (280g) and phone (iPhone 7, 140g without cover) for no more than 20 minutes, thus interspersing our tests with breaks of 5-10 minutes. Apart from this, Deepoon V3 has proven to live up to our expectations: the front mask is very soft and comfortable and the large openings suggest excellent skin breathing, an advantage that should make users happy especially in use during summer periods.

Conclusions and price

Deepoon V3 is an excellent VR viewer, made of resistant and durable materials, universal with all smartphones and adaptable, with a little patience, to all users. It does what it promises, that is, it guarantees the use of VR content from the smartphone.

It improves compared to the first viewers released on the market from the point of view of comfort and lightness and is therefore among the most interesting alternatives currently on the market. You can buy it on Amazon for 25.99 euros.
